Has anyone use the blue dock foam as a target butt?

My thought is to cut this material down and slide the chunk that I want into a burlap bag to help contain any pieces that might come off during my shooting sessions.

Will this kind of foam hold up? Does this type of foam leave residue on the arrows?

Any information on this material would be useful.

I found a piece floating and took it home, I only used it for broadheads. It did not hold up but was free.

When my dad and I went down to southern mo. to turkey hunt the guy that we hunted on had some dock foam for shooting.  His however was an orange or pink color.  It definately stopped the arrows but was harder than hell to pull out.

I don't know about the blue foam, but it should work.  His foam didn't break apart although I only shot a few rounds.  His did have holes in it as well.

Thanks

I'll have to get a chunk and try it. My brother in-law lives at Weatherby Lake and he said they are always rebuilding docks on the lake and throwing the foam away.

You're sitting on some excellent duck decoy making material there.

Doesn't hold up well, leaves a mess behind, and is really expensive if you have to buy it.
I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!

Tom, I was thinking, you could get a full size chunk of it spray paint it brown. Then get some dowels for legs and make your own 3d deer target.

Apex,

The mess was one of the things that I was concerned about. That's why I wanted to put them in a burlap bag.

Brian,

Yeah I was thinking along the same lines. Make a bunch of pigs.

I towed a big chunk of it out of Grand Lake down in Oklahoma and hauled it home.  Took two of us just to get it out of the water.  I used it for several years as a target butt.

Tried that, and it melted all over my arrows, had to scrape it off after every shot! Maybe it's just cause I'm shooting a Cari-Bow  :)
