I hadn't worked with hickory in some time, kinda got hooked on osage. Since I moved to nevada where the humidity is low I decided it would be a great place to work with the stuff. No need for a hot box, the shop keeps lumber at around 6%mc.  While at Ojam I mentioned this to a good friend Tommy Leach, and he brings me this hickory stave the next day, what a guy.  The bow is 60" 45# @ 26" 1 3/8" from fades to midlimb tapering to 1/2" tips. A very well mannered shooter. I used some short Texas Rat snakeskins I had, I kinda like the way they turned out. Bocote tips. Still hooked on osage  : :)  but I'm starting to like whitewoods more and more.

Thanks Tommy!!

You really haven't hunted the old fashion way until you've done it from one of these Indian houses.(The Tipi) "Glenn ST. Charles"

Lovely. I hope she shoots forever. Re hickory, I've not had good luck with hick as a backing for osage, but I've made a few hick board bows backed with bamboo and they were all just dandy. And for hunting, hick takes a gorgeous dark stain. dave

Great job Dano, how much set do you get on those hickory staves? I got some in the drying rack now.

But, of course osage will always be my favorite!

Wow I love how you did the snake and the wood's got character too. Nice job.

Thanks guy's. Joe This stave, thanks to the drier climate only took on an inch of set, which didn't hurt the bows manners at all. I'm with ya, osage will always be my favorite too, it's tough to beat.

Dano, since the Nevada climate is to dry for Hickory! You can send it to NY for safe keeping!!!

That one is a beauty for sure!!!!

Hey Dano,,life has been kinda busy lately. New position at work has alot more requirements,my daughter Megan is graduating high school in a couple weeks and starting college and my wife's mother is having health problems. Other then that, life is good!  :)  Bow building has virtually come to a halt but I am working on a new set of cane arrows for the 3D shoots. Gotta handle the family stuff first though. But I do have another piece of snakey osage that I'm gonna hopefully turn into a bow one of these days.

It's good to see that your still whittl'n out a bow or two. That low humidity would be a big help for the bow building. Do you see any difference in working osage out there?

Thanks Lee, I think I'll keep it out here  :D

Richard, I'm sorry to hear about your wife's mother, I hope all goes well. Megan graduating!! Where does the time go?? I know you are proud of her, give her my congratulations. Yep, gotta take care of the family first, but it sure is nice to whittle on a piece of wood now and then just for a little peace of mind. I think Osage will do just fine out here as well, we shall see.
