just wondering if STOS BH's are still being made. been looking at bh's lately and the STOS caught my eye for one particular setup i have. i see a few stores have them and a few say they are out of stock and i can't find a 'STOS' website. i don't want to set up with STOS only to find they aren't available later on.

I'm not positive but I think the they closed up in 2017.
If this is related to your other post looking for broadheads....Raptor's website looks like they actually have some 160 glue ons. Not quite the 175+ grain you were asking about.....or what I'd call wide at 1 1/8"
The pic shows 6 heads...the link says 3-pack.
Might want to make a call...or in your case maybe email...to be sure.

I understand not wanting to buy a limited supply head.
...maybe they'll cut you a deal on a lifetime supply?

thanks Zradix, my other thread about the wide broadheads got me thinking about the last of the 250gr 1 1/8" heads i'm currently using which were discontinued a few years ago. still looking for wide heads but also standard width heads now. both for the same setups, just depends on what i'm hunting as to what i use. i saw the STOS and fancied them but not if i can't get more of them.

 

what's the difference between the 130 gr and 160gr STOS? are the 160gr blades thicker or is it bigger or both? looks like those 160gr are ceramic coated, is it the coating that makes it heavier? also, do you know if the magnus classics are still being made? that might be the the wide head i go for?

raptor archery might be the place to get all my BH's. magnus classics and simmons tree sharks for my wide heads, possibly STOS for 1 1/8" heads.

It looks as if the 160's must just be thicker..same length and width.
I doubt the ceramic coating weighs much.

I know Ted at Raptor is a good guy.
Just talked with him today in fact ordering some shafts from him.

I liked the Stos but Grizzly Bruin is similar enough with more weight options I don't fret losing STOS.

I have both the 130 and 160 STOS.  They are the exact same size, the blades on 160s are just noticably thicker.   They're a great head. 

I too liked the Stos 160.

Excellent penetration - several years ago I killed a couple of moose using them.

The only issue was that with the bow and arrow I was/am shooting I had to add weight up front and eventually just moved on to some of the heavier two blade broad heads that became available.

I most often use 2 blade broad heads for moose but most often use 3 blade broad heads for black bears, caribou, and deer.

The STOS 160's are a great head.  I have killed a bunch of animals with them.  Biathalonman has it right though.  The Bruins are better. The same great arrow flight with better steel and more weight option.

I ordered a 6 pack of 160's a number of years ago and while waiting for a reply about cost and how to send payment, etc. the package arrived in the mail! Blew me away.
Too bad to lose a maker so trusting. And a head so good.

STOS has been gone a few years now, a disappointing loss.

As already mentioned the profiles on the heads are all the same, the difference is in the thickness.  I always put small tanto tips on mine and I never had any trouble with any of them but the 160's were by far the most popular.

As for the ceramic coating, STOS came out with those a year or two before shutting down.  Awesome heads, the ceramic coating is not for weight purposes it is super slick with the idea of enhancing penetration.  They called them "Classic Ceramics" which I always thought was a little confusing, as they were the new heads.  I currently have some I use for my lightest bow set up.

STOS heads were being produced by Thunder Valley Archery. As were Snuffers, Woodsman and Magnus Classic heads. TVA shut down a little over a year ago so unless someone else has picked up production of any of those heads they are currently not being manufactured and your best bet is looking for used or getting lucky and finding some old stock still sitting on a shelf somewhere.

I have accumulated. a number of heads too numerous to mention.  Stos 160 grain were among my favorite.  A solid head that flew well on my woodies. 160 seemed a perfect weight for my setups.

Oz Clint; you might look into Ribtek I believe they moved to your neck of the woods, great head and have 145, 160, 190 grain heads.  Practically indestructible. 


I shot STOS too and they are equally great heads.

I think it will be in my Will!     That's my light weight bow so may be falling back on it as the years creep up on me.  If I see one with similar specs I'll let you know.  Mine has Purple Heart riser, curly maple veneers, bamboo core and Elk horn tips.
 

I'm also a big fan of the STOS 160's. A few months ago I posted several ads looking for some and was fortunate enough to find someone willing to part with some.

Thx Wud....I have a 60, 64, 65 n 70....the 70 is a sledgehammer!!!

Oh...and STOS heads are tuffer than nails btw.  To bad they aren't being made anymore.

Bet that 70# is sweet.   

Ribtek is another that is bullet proof, but company sold and moved to Australia I think.
