16 bear hunters per week?  This place must be huge.

Hi guys; just checking in. That's quite a list of Bear Quest hunters; looks like I'll be in some real good company. Never hunted bears before so any tips you want to pass along will be appreciated. Looking forward to meeting you guys.  Dave

Hi Dave yes I have a tip for you....bring some running shoes.Fred glad to see your back, this will be great. You will have the time of your life..As for the 16 hunters I believe we have about 50 square miles around the lodge of logging roads and lake shore(access by boat only). At least 24 active baits working several weeks prior to use arriving. And Ray if your not going to cowboy up and come along please stop incourageing these fella's to eat the damn horse meat pizza will ya.Remember when ya'all ate the pizza and then drunk that elephant juice and then we ate cholate LaClairs  ???? tell em about that......bowdoc

Barry Wensel

Bowdoc... also remind me the chocolate eclairs (not LaClairs) don't mix well back-to-back with raw oysters and horseradish sauce washed down with red beer. bw

JC

Tique, get a thermacell and a bunch of extra cartridges (ship them to Tom if you are flying in). Practice seated while shooting from a stand 6-8' off the ground, 5-12 yards away. Temps are 70's to 30's, from bright sunshine to pouring rain so pack accordingly. Bring a camera, film or storage media, extra batteries...you'll have lots of opportunities for pics. Bring yer appetite, the food is worth the trip. And last, don't shoot at the first bear that comes into the bait...unless he's a monster...cause you'll probably see one bigger.

Oh yeah UB a chocolate coverd LaClair would be that big hairy dude shooting the stick bow huh ??? sorry....JC what are you doing...man you gotta tell these guy's just bring shorts and tank tops don't worry about the bugs..there are'nt any.No need for boots eather just bring them rubber flip flop deals.Bring some real sweet smelling sun screen and lots of gum...bring plenty of cash in US funds or your credit card pen number...and don't worry about praticeing, the bear will be so near your stand you can't miss...always shoot the first thing that comes into the bait no matter what...Never stay in your tree stand after dark. The bears will hide along the trail back to the truck. No singing on your way out of the deep dark woods eather !!!! let see what else ???????????? bowdoc

Horsemeat Pizza? Reminds me when I was young there was a hamburger chain around here called "The Dutch Hut " had the best burgers around , well they got shut down for selling horse meat , McDonalds couldn't hold a candle to them .Oh yeah take JC's advice on the thermocell . He told me once he would rather leave his bow home before his thermacell !

bowdude

Can I place a 15 - 15 order?  15 feet up and 15 yards off the bait!    :goldtooth:

bowdude

So those thema bobs really work huh?  Never bothered to try em.  Call me a Jack Benny I guess.  Just hard to believe if there is any breeze at all that a gas can protect you in a circle.

Greyfox54

Bowdude JC made a believer out of me ,There were so many skeeters in Georgia I was scared , but  they stayed out of range in wind and calm . If they work there they will work anywhere .

bowdude, Those Thermacells work so well you probably won't even need a head...but I still carry one just to remind me of the days before Thermacell    Doc

Do they work you bet.I bought a spare tonight mine is 2-3 years old don't know how long the striker will last but I don't want to find out in Canada.I don't go in the woods here above 50 degrees without it.Getting close wife can't stand me,see all of you soon.Kip

bowdude

Must have been  some bad units out there at some time.  Read the low reviews at cabelas.  Sounds like a coin toss as to whether they will work or not.  Oh well to each his own.

If I weren't flying I would have enuf lone wolf climbers to be 20 feet up!

Thermocells RULE in the Canadian Bush DO NOT LEAVE HOME WITHOUT it Gents !!!
Unwrapped about 400 lbs of some of the most delectable SWEETS today all by my lonesome, there was Freighoffers Chocolate Chip Cookies,French Cheesecake,Chocolate Covered Donuts,Marble Cake,Raspberry,Apple & Strawberry Danishes and the list of goodies goes on & on.....I have been adding Flouride to the bait to keep the Bears Pearly Whites looking good !!!
You guys will be up close & personal with the bears on this hunt !!! That is what bowhunting is all about.
Do not hesitate to ask questions fellows.

Lots of good tips so far: got a Thermacell yesterday with some extra cartriges, starting to sort out some rain or shine gear (any wool required on this trip), flip flops, tank tops and I was born with appetite. Couple things I'm worried about though: stands only 8' high and running shoes; heck bears can jump 8' high and my running shoes don't work too good goin up a tree. Encouragement needed!!

Tom thats alot of SWEETS; those bears will be on such a "sugar high" they won't stand still long enough to shoot at.

No man can out run a bear or out climb one eather running shoes or no running shoes...But I can out run Uncle Barry and 4 others guy's in camp...Tree stands 8 feet high ??? who said that ? I said 5-6 feet high...ya gotta kinda give the bears a chance here too...I bet Tommy has gained 25 pounds since he started baggen sweets....I know he's eating some of that stuff...............bowdoc

Curveman

I'd get a nosebleed at 8 feet!    :D     Just in case ya think old doc is kiddin', below is a picture of my stand last year. Ya get a better shot angle at a lower elevation. Besides, it does get cold up there and I like to warm my feet on the bears that pass beneath.   :biglaugh:   I tagged an aggressive one out of this stand last year (I think "Quebec Quest" is archived somewhere?).
