I have been shooting my Jack Howard Carbon Classic more lately. It is about 56# at my 27" draw. According to all my reading and correspondence with Jack over the years, that is close to what he used. I also noted that he shot swaged 2114's out of that set-up with his 125gr razor glued-on three blade. I am assuming that his arrows must have weighed less than 450 grains with that set up. So, was he shooting 8gr/lb out of his bows?  Wonder if it is wise to shoot that weight out of my classic?  Would that shorten the bows life? Also, never heard or read that Jack encountered penetration problems with that set up while shooting typically 30-60 yds on deer and elk. And he killed a bunch of both. Any thoughts?

Jack always shot light arrows out of his bow.  I don't suppose it hurt it any.  He sent me some 2114's and I shot them for a while out of my Gamemasters with no problem, but I just like a little heavier arrow.

They will also handle "heavy" arrows quite well.  I shot 1100 grains out of my 60# Gamemaster for a year.

Thanks Gene. My (one of a kind)carbon classic also handles heavier shafts well and I typically shoot around 600 grains.  I guess Jack's precision accuracy at long range (usually 50-60yds)must have offset the loss of momentum with his lighter arrows. I never read or heard of him having problems with penetration and also have a copy of the penetration test he performed.
