Can anyone tell me what the recommended brace height is for a 1957 Kodiak?
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

bohuntr, I asked the same qeestion when recieiveing  my 57 Special and 8 1/2 seemed to be the consensus and has worked well for me. I did ad Hush Puppies and Bow Hush to quiet it down.

8-1/2 is very high for a '57.  That's over what the Bear catalog recommends for a '59, and those bows are braced higher.

I'll check my '57s tonight, but the 64" Kodiak I think is around 7-1/2.  The 60" should be a little lower; 7 to 7-1/4" I think.  A decent rule of thumb is brace them until the string is just barely lifting out of the groove in the limb.  Go lower or higher and they get louder pretty quick.

Just checked my bows and the catalogs.

The 60" 1959 is supposed to be between 6 and 7".  My 60" '58 is braced at 6-1/2", my 64" '56 and '57 are both braced at a hair under 6-3/4".  I don't have a 60" '57 any more to check, but it should probably be around 6-1/2" looking at the catalog.

I have owned several 57 and a few new like 69's and i agree 8" or more is way high, but I shot mine from 7.25 to 7.75"s. Jeremy may be right but that are what mine liked. Shawn
