I bought a used Zipper recurve a couple of weeks ago specs - 60" 48@27". My actual DL is 29 3/8" nock valley to back of bow. When I draw the bow it stacks to the point that it almost feels like it has a draw stop on it at my anchor point. My question is will I damage the limbs if I continue to shoot the bow as is? I don't have a scale so I don't know how much I am actually drawing but it feels like around 55lbs. or so.

Please forgive my ignorance but I'm just now getting back into traditional archery after a 30 year stint with training wheels!

Bob,

Depends on your riser and limb combo.  You're getting close to the limit on some bows.

Call Bill or Tracy @ Zipper and ask them.

Even if your not hurting it, I don't know that I would want to shoot a bow that was stacking/stopping near its design limit. I have shot some older shorter Bear bows that stacked real bad and it was had to get used to and have any kind of accuracy.

Having personally blown up a bow at full draw, I strongly suggest you get to Zipper (Bill or Tracy).

Thanks for the replies, I have only shot the bow  a few times so far but I will discontinue  shooting it until I find out for sure. I probably should have waited to find a bow that fit a little better before blowing such a big chunk of my budget but the temptation was too great when I got the bow in my hand!

Bob as Gene said It depends on if you have an Extreme riser or a standard riser at any rate a 29 1/2" draw length is about the limit on a 60" bow with a standard riser and over the limit of an Extreme riser. A 60" Zipper gains 3 lbs per inch up past 33" of draw (which is way farther than it should be drawn) so the draw stop you spoke of is your muscles not the bow.If you like the bow do yourself a favor and get a set of 62" limbs that are the weight you want at your draw length.The 60" set you have are a popular weight and you should be able to sell them easily.

what do you want for the limbs? There are plenty of people hear that are always asking for lower weight Zipper limbs.

You nailed it exactly! It was my back muscles, I knew the bow shot too well for a hard stacker. I spoke with Tracy on the phone yesterday about new limbs.

I'm not sure at this point whether to sell the limbs or keep them with the bow. If I decide to get rid of them I'll post in the classifieds.

Good choice to call tracy, but you were right the biow would be around 55#s at that draw. i have shot the 60" Zipper and draw 29"s and had no problem with stacking or pinch, glad ya figured out! Shawn
