My wife and I just used our brand-new gril for the first time, man does it ever cook good, we put some deer back strips on the gril, four of them, I spice them up with some herbs in garlic and seasoning, I put them on the opposite side of the gril and lit the fire on the other side, I slow cook them for about an hour, at 350°, along with potatoes and carrots sauteed in butter,WOW

We ended up eating all 4     :bigsmyl:

My deer meat of 45 lbs. may not last summer !   :banghead:

  :goldtooth:   September 15 opening-day can't wait

I gotta break my new traditional bows in on some deer     :biglaugh:

i know what you mean...we go thru two deer a year and typically run out after 8 months...good stuff and priced right.

I once went through 6 deer by end of April.  Man that was some good eating.    :bigsmyl:   Of course I shared some.     :campfire:

Two years ago my family was spoiled we had 4 Deer and 1 Bear in the freezer.  We finished most by May.  This past year daddy only put one doe in the freezer, we didn't make it  to February before we ran out.  So I have promised my wife and children that i will put a sizable dent in the doe pop this upcoming season.  Joe

We will pace ourselves, it's only the wife and myself.  So we should be able to stretch it until September

Sounds very good!!

The Wife and I can usually make 3 deer last from 1 season to the next, sometimes longer since the kids have gone now.We have venison 3-4 times a week, but towards the end before the next season opens we have to start really rationing it out.

It's amazing, how much it makes you concentrate, on your practice shots.  It really makes you focus.

What's even better, is a roast in a crockpot with seasoning, carrots, potatoes and onions, and then you let cook for about six hours on low heat.

Best eaten meat there is.

Nothing better than grilled venison.  BA!, you need to get a couple extra doe tags this season!

Out here in God's Country my wife & I pretty much live on wild game and what we produce ourselves.  We've found we need to take about 8 deer a year to keep from running out by the beginning of the next season.  Extra doe tags are essentially unlimited, so this isn't a problem.  Between deer, waterfowl, upland birds, and our own poultry, we do pretty good.

We process backstraps for grilling, then everything else goes into burger, jerky, and bratwurst.

My wife's venison brats are to die for. After we grind & case it, she smokes them to perfection. She just did 100 elk brats with pepperjack cheese that are even a notch better than deer!  Venison or elk brats on the grill, it just doesn't get any better,  unless you are eating them while watching a Minnesota Vikings or Devils Lake HS Firebirds football game!

I take 8 weeks off between Sept-Dec to fill the freezers.  Normally, I hate to go shopping, but I make an exception for this stuff...        :D

Varmint, you ever get out his way, you are welcome at Critter Crossing (the name of our farmstead).  Same for all Tradgangers.  Come Fall our home is a meeting place for friends from all over the country, old & new, and the feeds are legendary.

Wait till you try the homemade Peach Cobbler!...

Last year, I hunted on private land, had to go there with the landowner.  Other than that I couldn't hunt on the land by myself, once a week usually on Thursday or Saturday him and I would hunt.

But this year, I got permission to hunt land that has twice as much area (80 acres) and I can go on there any time I want, and I like hunting by myself.  That way I can spot and hunt.  And 80 acres is where the meat in my freezer came from, it was a nice doe, she was 160 lbs. about three years old, maybe 2 1/2, anyway partly corn feed, because there's a corn field just east of it.  Looking forward to this year's hunting, totally traditional this yr.

The other guy thought I was nuts selling my perfectly good wheels.  He may even let me hunt his land by myself, because he doesn't think I'll get a deer this year, can't wait to show my phots, I also have a bear hunt scheduled this year, looking forward to that.  Won't be as good eating as a deer, but it will be fun.
