Hi guys, just curious about the shrew longbows (short longbows)...  Do they make for an accurate & stable shooting bow? One you'd compete with?  Or would you go with a longer longbow for 3D shoots?
Blessings,
Steve

The only Shrew I ever had my hands on and shot I would without a doubt say that it would be good for 3D or any other shoot!  For that matter, it would be good for anything ya' need to shoot an arrow at!  That puppy was FINE!

Word has that there may be a new Shrew target bow here in near future.

absolutely accurate and stable even to the shortest models.

Shrew is a great 3D, target & hunting bow

A Shrew would be a great bow for 3-D shooting. Ron designed it that way. Light in hand ,short, very smooth drawing, and accurate.I did my third Robin Hood with a Shrew.Read the Story of the Shrew on Ron's site. It gives you the whole lowdown on why Ron came up with the Shrew idea and design.

Gotta agree with all above statements. Best thing I ever did was to buy a Shrew bow! Now my recurves just come for a ride in the truck and hardly ever see field time.

Shrews are great for all occasions!

I shoot mine all day long with no side effects, it is about 7 pounds lighter than my other bows, 60" 53@30 vs 60@30.

And its amazing how well that little bugger throws a 650gr 2117!

One of the most enjoyable bows I've ever shot.

Shrews are kinda like the perfect woman in a long bow....

-If you find one, you'll want to keep it.
-You'll be so proud you'll wanna' take her everywhere.
-She'll get along with all your other friends ..er...bows.
-You'll want to give her all your attention!

It's all a matter of perspectives.

If yer playing the 3D game for what it was intended - a fun way to tune up for hunting - then surely use whatever hunting bow suits yer fancy ... Shrews are great!

If yer into 3D strictly for the competition and yer out to win, you will want to look at tackle specific to target archery, and there are specific bow designs (and arras) that will give you at least a few points edge.

As a side note, the NFAA (Redlands, CA) was formed around stump shooting, and the core goal was always hunting.  Didn't take long for the human competitive edge to rear it's ugly head and before long there were so few archers using hunting type/weight gear that it turned into a golf-like form of target archery.

It's all a matter of perspectives ...

I agree with Rob , if your after the competition of shooting and winning I would go with a 62-64 in. 3 peice takedown longbow ( Hummingbird bows comes to mind ) for the weight/ stability and shoot light arrows for flat trajectory and still use it for your hunting bow also . If your wanting a fun bow thats a awesome hunting /stump shooting bow but can be shot in 3Ds and target competition  for fun go with the shorter Shrew .

Someone posted above there may be a "Target Shrew" coming soon......What type of target shrew would it be? A three piece or just a longer model shrew one piece?
Blessings,
Steve

Shrews are very stable bows and I would not hesitate to shoot any of mine in competition.  As far as a "target shrew" is concerned I dont see anything in the near future but I have heard rumors of a longer 1 piece bow.

I don't shoot a Shrew but I do shoot a 58 inch BlackCreek Banshee. It is a foward riser longbow, I plan on hunting with it this fall and it is also my 3-D bow. To be honest it is the only bow I own I look at it like this. I only get one shot a deer, whether it be foam or alive. 3-D shoots are fun and great hunting practice.

Yep! One shot is all... I'm lights out on the second shot though! ahahah.. When I miss a target, I always like to shoot a second arrows to justify myself.. The second arrow is always dead on... NOw if I can learn to shoot the first one like that....    Blessings

I have to agree with Rob on this one.It all depends on what kind of game you want to play.

Most any hunting bow can be used for 3D with good results. It is the guy pulling the string that makes the real difference.

On the other hand if you are really into competition and can shoot well enough to tell the difference,a target type bow will make a small percentage gain in score.

I like the competition and shoot a heavy riser for stability and light fast arrows to help distance judging errors.

PastorSteveHill

I'll probably stick with shooting a hungint set up even while shooting 3D.... I would love to be a great 3D shooter as well, but would rather be certain come "Game Time" when the antlers are teh trophy...
Blessings,
Steve
