I'm finishing up a reflex/deflex long bow for a friend .  It is more deflex than reflex, is 72" tall and is approximately 44# at his 31" draw length.  I stopped by the the local pro shop to see what he would recommend in carbon arrows.  His suggestion is GT's 55/75.  Lenght of the shaft and price sounds like a fit but do you recommend the stiffness of this set up?  He believes it would work just fine.

I do not have near the draw length you have but at 55# 28" draw the GT 5575 traditionals fly incredible.

I think the 55/75s are way too stiff for your setup.

I don't know man.  31 inches....that's a LONG draw.  I shoot 30 inch 55/75's out of my 50# @ 29" Vortex.  Your friend will need a 32 inch arrow and a 32 inch 35/55 is gonna be one limber arrow.  Tough call on this one.

I say go with the 55/75's and if they are too stiff you can always limber em up with a heavier insert and point.  If you go with the 35/55's, at 32 inches, you won't be able to shorten them much at all and you can only drop down in point weight so much.

Otto, I believe the 35/55 only goes to 30" in length.  If you want wood looking arrows the 55/75 is the lowest spine to go with I believe.

I just wrote a big long explanation about how to get your arrows to fly straight, then Vermonster informed me that you were shooting 31 inches, so I changed my post so I wouldn't look so stupid!!

At 31 inches they might just fly for you. I'd weight the head down with a hundred grain inserts, 125 grain tips, that should do it.

He has a 31" draw length. There isn't much to trim if they're weak.

I shoot a 50# bow and use gt,55/75 arrows and they fly great for me. I tried 35/55 and they did not work as well.

Id go with em. Like it has already been said, you can always add weight but can't shorten em any when you got long arms like that.

I feel ya. With my particular bow setups/draw length, I usually find my arrow choices in the grey area between spines.  I've found if I ere I want it to be to a stiffer spine, particularly when I shoot broadheads.  

Given the long draw length you describe, I would say the 5575's or a CX 350/6075 size would work just peachy with that setup...

I'd do the 55/75's.  You can get those weights from gold tip and add weight behind the insert via a long allen wrench.  You can buy 50 grain and 20 grain so tuning is precise.  I have found carbons seem to react more to length than point weight.

Holy cow, you would have to add 300gr or more up front to get it to react well.  I would definately suggest the a weaker spine.

Yesterday I was fiddling around and put a 50 grain brass insert in one of my 29.5" 4560 CX Terminator Hunters.  This brought the weight up to 530 grains from the normal 480 grains with a standard alum. insert (T-Hunter has a higher GPI than most carbons due to the full length Buff Tuff wrap, one of the reasons I love em').  I also was shooting a 30" 6075 Terminator (same shaft, no Buff Tuff wrap)which weighs 485 grains.

This 30" 6075 duplicates POI with the shorter 4560, and I can shoot them interchangably.  I found that the 50 extra grains up front on the test 4560 did not affect horizontal POI, but as to be expected it did hit a bit lower than the lighter arrows.

One would think that adding that much more weight up front would noticably effect spine, but as has been my experience and as Hatchchaser noted, length seems to be a greater factor...
