I will be 16 weeks post-shoulder-replacement on Monday. I am now shooting a bow that I can hunt with -- 43# at 29" ---- If your healing/strengthening follows the same timetable as mine, you should be able to hunt by November.

I trust that this information will help you make plans for deer season.

It does sound like your recovery has been less painful than mine was. So maybe you will be ahead of my schedule. That would be pretty good.

12 days since my shoulder replacement

I got home yesterday from the rehab facility. Slept in my own bed...like a baby 

I have not been having any pain (praise God)  I was told the pain would be bad for a couple weeks.

After hospital type food I'm looking forward to a supper tonight of a bear roast with potatoes, carrots and onions

 i'm glad you're doing good buddy. Maybe you should do a little surf and turf Lake Michigan perch and bear roast. Sounds like a winning combination !

Ray, you know I love fish for breakfast so the fresh perch fillets and  will be my morning meal tomorrow. 

Good luck and a speedy recovery Ron! Hope you are back to shooting in no time. Take it easy and enjoy that roast and taters first though!

That incision site is pretty small compared to mine. I think your recovery is going to move along quickly and smoothly. Did you have any surgery on that shoulder before your replacement?

No I didn't

Happy to hear you are doing good Ron. Like you my pain was minimal and I got off the nasty meds in a few days. My surgery was June 5 and I start pt July 5 with what I'm expecting to be more intense movements and light strength training. I have pendulum exercises to do also and my wife helps me with range of motion everyday. Good luck sir glad it's coming along. John

I saw my surgeon today, he said I was doing really good. He showed me some stretching exercises to do at home for the next 4 weeks then I'll be seeing him again to see my progress. He said I didn't need the sling anymore unless my arm got tired and needed a rest. He said I could drive as long as I felt safe and comfortable.

I guess we are all lucky to live during a time when such replacement surgery is not only available, but now fairly routine and with excellent outcomes.  Wishing you the very best in your recovery sir.

Thanks Joe. Today is one month post surgery and everything is going good. As I go about my daily routine I catch myself trying to use my arm for things I shouldn't. I'll be seeing my surgeon again on the 1st of Aug and we'll see what he has to say.

A friend of mine has an old LH 1960 Bear Kodiak that he said he would give me. It's 29#@ 28" a good bow for me to start on when the time comes

Great News.  Glad the recovery is going well Ron!!!!

That bow sounds perfect, Ron. When you get into more advanced physical therapy you will start using stretch cords and light weights. That will help you prepare for starting back with a light bow. I do believe that the light bow work I did helped me move on to a hunting-weight bow.

At this point, I am doing a lot of experimenting with equipment. I want my hunting set up to be as lethal as possible. I am stacking the deck so that I can get the job done consistently with 43 pounds at 29 inches. Most of what I am doing consists of experimenting with arrows to enhance penetration as much as possible.
