On Wednesday evening, my 4 year old chocolate lab named Bruce passed away.  He was walking out in a neighbors field and the neighbor decided to kill him with a rifle.  He also decided to shoot my other dog that was with him.  He was shot a couple times and has a surgically repaired broken leg now.  My wife and I are heartbroken.   Neither dog was causing any kind of harm, and these senseless acts were completely illegal.  Nothing will ever bring my buddy back.  He loved everybody and never met a stranger, sweetest dog you could ask for.  I just hope that maybe someday that we can roam the woods together again.  Rest in peace my friend.

Good hunting to you all.
May the wind be your friend, and may your arrows fly true,
Most of all, may the appreciation and the gratitude of what we do keep us humble......

I'm super upset to hear that happened. I think I would loose my mind if someone did that to my dogs. I'd probably end up on the news.. So sorry for your loss Jake. Terrible. Prayers for you and family.

Jake I am sorry to hear this. I just can't imagine someone cruel enough to do this. Please tell me you pressed charges and the neighbor was arrested.

Gator1

Thats cruel.  I'm sorry for you're loss.  That neighbor should be arrested.

I was in the same exact place you are now, almost exactly a year ago. I feel your pain bro. I still feel the anger!

Orion

I agree with Lowrider.  The SB should be prosecuted. Even if your dog was on his land, it still doesn't justify shooting.  Do bring it to the attention of the authorities.

I am mad, sad, sick, and just lost in general. I'm going to do everything in my power to ruin this guy. He has a history of crap like this, but he killed the wrong dog this time.

My dog is my constant companion and best friend.  To lose her in such a callous manner would make me heartsick.  Certainly the person who shot your dog should be prosecuted, if possible.  Since he shot your dog so openly, with no attempt to conceal what he did, I suspect he may have the law on his side.  But you should certainly find out about that, as I'm sure you will.

Ironically, people have been prosecuted recently for shooting bears that broke in and were in the process of ransacking their houses at Lake Tahoe, as the bears are protected there, but there was a story about a year ago about a rancher who shot two dogs some ladies had taken onto his land.  There was no livestock around at the time, and the ladies were just looking for a place in the country to take their dogs for a romp.  But a rancher is allowed to shoot any dogs running loose on his property without warning.  Other than the newspaper warning people not to do that, there wasn't anything anybody could do about it.

I am so sorry for your loss.  My lab is my nearly constant companion.  He is 12-1/2 years old, and not well.  I have had time to prepare for what is next, so I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel.  The type of person that would commit such a heinous act deserves far less compassion than the law will provide, but I hope you can see that he gets every ounce of its weight.

So sorry for your loss.........I would be in jail about now. I hope you can have that jerk arrested and jailed or fined big time.

I agree with Ron W, i would be in jail if anyone shot my 7 yr yellow lab. Make me sick to my stomach thinking about your loss.

So sorry to read about this.  We had to put down our 6 year old lab last fall when she came down with an untreatable disease.  She was a great dog.  Couldn't imagine losing a dog in this manner.

Ari_Bonn

That is terrible,   I hope you are able to make this hateful dirty scum  pay.

kennym

Jake, sorry ,I hate to hear that.

If I'm not mistaken, it is against the law in MO to shoot a dog unless it is harassing livestock. I would talk to the sheriff quickly if you intend to do anything about it.

Stay sharp, Kenny.
