I've put down a few dozen whitetails with the Woodsman head, it is my favorite head by far.

Just an observation on my part, but does anyone else notice the woodsman head rarely completely committes to a rib?   I can't think of one kill I've had where a woodsman has completetly penetrated through a rib, they usually deflect to the side and go inbetween.  I know when I shot 2 blades, I had many more snapped ribs.  I've always had excellent results as far as penetration and blood with the woodsman. Can't help but think this is part of the reason. I think that 1" width is a good size for squeezing between also.

I can attest to the woodsman.I have kileed a hand full of deer with them and can only recall 1 that wasn't a complete pass thru althogh it traveled nearly the whole lenght of the deer.I can't say that the blood trails are heavy but I have never had to trail one very far I uasually see them fall.Mine are sharp but can't figure why there isn't more blood.I shoot a light poundage bow but I think Im going to stay with the woodsman instead of changing to a 2blade for bear and caribou this fall.  

Hill boy-What do you consider light poundage?? Just curious- I have dropped weight to 47#( ACS CX) and I have wondered if I need to choose a different head. Thanks

I've shot 3 Moose with them. No problems.

Was there a "concern" with them earlier ?  Maybe two or three  years ago or so ?  I have a batch that I can get fairly sharp, but certainly not as sharp as some of you seem to espouse.  They also seemed to wear unevenly when being sharpened, with one blade wearing more than the one next to it.  I never could get the tool marks out of the front section on these things.  I tried using a large (brand new) file followed by progressively finer stones, to sandpaper on a flat surface, to even hollow grinding with a wet wheel.   No dice.

I think they are probably great heads, but I got to dissapointed to buy any more.

Exactly what ChuckC says!  Heck, I actually resorted to a belt sander.  The most recent generation of them are garbage.  Supposedly the manufacturer is retooling and the "new" ones (which are reportedly pre-sharpened) are better.  I don't believe they are in production yet.

I  was fortunate enough to get some that were still under "Wensel" label and they are fine heads.  The ones I got from 3-R just aren't worth the aggravation, and are so uneven that there is little blade left once they are tuned.

I wish they can get it together..... But for now it is 2-blades for me.

I got half a dozen from 3riv last year,and yes they were not quite 'high quality control' out of the package, but I didn't seem to have nearly the trouble that you guys did squaring them up and getting them sharp.   in fact I just pulled one out of my bow quiver (that has been in there since I last touched them up in december...and I shoot this bow several times a week), and it still popped hair off my arm.  

and I'm hardly a sharpening guru...in facted I watched charlie lambs video before doing it the first time.  (I had alway shot 2 blades magnus, stos and bears...or replaceable blade 3 blades before...it was my first time sharpening a 3 blade).

Man, I miss those Wensels - I need more, hope 3R gets them back into production.

I like them, have always had good luck and blood trails with them, and find them extremely easy to sharpen (shaving sharpe).  My only complaint with them is they need to make a 200 grain model.

3-Rivers acknowledged the problem and was in the process of having them re-tooled.  I'm guessing some of their tooling equipement was getting worn out.  The pack I got last Summer had uneven blade wear when sharpening, like mentioned above.  I would suspect they have this corrected by now.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Magnus still puts the Woodsman together. RIGHT?

I have had terrible experience wit woodsman vs ribs. I personally will not use them again. I'm glad many of you have had good luck with them.

Rob, we've got Woodsmans in stock.

According to Magnus the machinery needed to be retooled as a part of "normal maintenance".  Stuff just plain wears out over time!

Limbo, I'm shooting 48 and 49 lb bow's.I got started on woodsmans because at the time they were the only broadhead that I could get a constant pattern with.

I am currently shooting the Razorcaps which are very similar to the WW. I shot a moose last season the RC did hit a rib but did not take it out....took off a little piece of it and apparently diverted off of the rib and took out the heart  and lungs. I haven't thought much about it but I really can't remember any animal I killed with a WW or RC that took out a rib. That includes a small pile of deer, 3 caribou and a moose. Always get great blood trails.

Yep, at the most they seem to just knock off a small chunk and then move on by to the good stuff.
