I am shooting a Fred Bear Super Mag 48 it is 60pds at 28 inch's. I can hit anything im looking at with in 15 yrds. After that it goes down hill pretty quick. I think it might have to do with the bow being so short. This is my first recurve but I already now that I'll never go back to the compound. Any way any one got and advice out there. Thanks alot!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm guessing you might just be right - a longer bow could be just the ticket for you.  For me at least, it seems like a short bow is just not as forgiving of mistakes in form.  And believe me, I make plenty of mistakes!

Do you have any way of shooting other bows over there?  Any clubs, shoots, etc.?  If not, you'll just have to pick one out and give it a try.  The good news is that with all the great bows available today it will be hard to make a bad choice!

Do you like wood or metal risers?
How much do you want to spend?
Recurve or longbow?

I can reccomend a few but really it comes down to what you like.Also I would suggest something 10-15 pounds lighter.A lighter weight will make learning good form much easier.

I would persoanlly recommend a bear grizzly.  Ultra available, not too long, and it comes in a variety of draw weights.  They are great bows too.  Just about everyone has started on the ol' grizzly.

Here's my two cents worth. I have a Browing Nomad Stalker, 48" #55@28  and Know what you are talking about, had the same issues with it. I put on a thunderhorn boa 6 arrow strap on quiver, put 6 arrows in it and immediately started shooting better, now am confident to around 24 yds with it. It is my new blind bow for turkeys and deer, you might try this, see if it helps. As  for longer bows, I recently traded for 2  Older BW bows, 60" takedown with metal risers. Didnt like the risers at first, but shoot them better than any bows I have, and you can usually pick them up cheap at trad shoots. This is a good bow to transition from compound to trad. as the balance is more familiar.

You would want a 60 to 62 in. bow in the low 50's maybe upper 40's especialy when first starting out . Going from a 70 lb compound , I find that most people including myself shoot 50 lbs at there draw lenght very well. After some time shooting you can work your way up to heavier weight bows or you may find that 50 lbs  and a well placed shot is all you need to do the job. I started out with a PSE Coyote @ 45lbs. I really like both bows. But the 45# was much easier to learn on.

That's funny! that was my first bow and I experienced about the same thing, except it was 20yrds for me. I shot a caribou at 20yrds and a whitetail buck at 18. I sold it to a bear nut. I then bought a mahaska and now I shoot only Howard Hill long bows. They just fit me great. By the way my Mahaska is for sale.
