So a few days ago I got my new RER takedown.   :bigsmyl:    It's 60"  with a 63#@28".  My draw length is 27.5", so arrows for my other bows have been cut to 28.5".  I wanted to purchase some Bemen 400 Classics today at our local shop for the new heavier weight RER.  By the owner and another employee I was told I was crazy for buying such heavy arrows.  So I second guessed my purchase and left with no arrows.     :(   I have read enough from this website to know darn well that 400's are not too heavy.  What to do.

??  Do what you know is right, and give someone else the bussiness.

More so, would the Classic 400's be overspined for my setup?  I'm guessing that I'll end up with close to 250+ grs up front.  Even looking at the charts from Beman everything points to the 400's.

Not overspined at all, just order them.

Carbon Express Heritage 250s are about .400 spine. They weigh about 11 gr/inch. If the 250 is not stiff enough, the 350 would surely be stiff enough. These Heritage shaft have 7 wraps of carbon and in my opinion are as tough as any shaft out there.

Was that a wheel bow shop? Most compound shops really don't have a clue as to an arrow choice.Add a 100 gr. insert and 125 gr. point will get you in the 550 grs. plus range.Too heavy what were they recommending you shoot a 350 gr. arrow.

Let Sipsey River set you up with some arrows.John has a trad ONLY shop and has bareshaft tested a LOT of bows.He helps me set up every new bow I shoot.

I am guessin that the local shop was not a trad shop.  Most do not have a clue about trad bows.  The 400 will shot fine.  You may want to take a look at a few of the sponsors here.  And see what they can offer you.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.  The shop is very much geared towards wheel bows.  When I was told that the 500's were a match to a 63# recurve I had to do a double take.  After flinging some GT 3555 through the bow, I had to try, I very quickly realized I needed a heavier arrow.  Maybe one of these days I'll trust my gut instinct.  thanks, brian

You should shoot at least 8 grains per pound of draw weight. To be safe let's say you are drawing 62#.You need at least a 496 grain arrow. You might be even better shooting 9-10 gpp.

FWIW, I shoot 60# @ 28", I'm using the Beman "hunters" @ 29.5" with 200gr upfront and they fly good.

I shoot 50@28 31" draw and the Beman 400 MFX shoot great with 150gr up front, just order them. Lost Nation Larry will cut them to length for you...PR
