Couldn't afford a 57 Chevy so I got this 57 Kodiak Special off the big auction site instead. I can't believe it went for 89 bucks. I think these Kodiak Specials from the 50's are the best value out there right now. I guess the fact that this one only pulls 36 pounds kept the price down. The wood on it is beatuful. Pictures don't do it justice.

My favorite bows. I never shot one I didn't like.
Is it too late to be what I could have been?

That beauty looks barely used.  Wonderful shooters.  Really, really underated bows.

Killdeer

Lovely bow, Bill! That is one that you will be able to shoot all your life, and you got a good deal on it.

I thought it was a '57 Kodiak, with special pics...  I was really looking forward to innovative photographic techniques.

Yes Sir - I like my 57 Special too. Here's what I had to say about mine a little over 4 years ago.

I was lucky and got to hunt with the LDB.  I decided I wanted one of my own and got a 57 Special that is 50#@27".  No misprint, 27".  Shoots like a dream.

I must admit my ignorance is a little emabarrasing. This post has elicited many comments about "The Little Delta Bow" or "LDB". I have no idea what that means. Can someone enlighten me or tell me where this story is posted so that I can read it?

Thanx

Wow! To think about the great archers that have held that bow. And all the game it has taken. The places it has been. The history in it is amazing.

Does this bow still "make the circuit?" I would love to hold her one day.

I have to say Bill, This one has me stumped LOL. Now I'm not an "expert" by any means       but all of the '57 Kodiak Specials that I have seen had "butterscotch" colored glass on the back and "dark brown" colored glass on the belly.

Maybe some more pictures and a trip over to "Traditional History/Collecting.....

Woodchucker-
When I first got this bow I did not know if it was a 57 or a 58. Droptine59 is still on record as saying a 58. Bowdoc, alaskabowhunter, and Nolz all say 57. Bowdoc sayd the easiest way to tell is the serial number. He says x=57 y=58. It may still turn out in fact that this is a 58- and that would be OK too. I have reached out to the experts and they don't agree!

vermonster13

It looks just like my old 58 so maybe it's a late 57.

That's why it was so cheap...it's obviously a forgery, or suffering delusions. I will give you half what you paid for it, because you are new to the sport and I wouldn't want you to walk away thinking we were all crooks. I guess I can find  some  way to dispose of this impostor, or sickie, whatever. You won't have to look at it anymore.  "[dntthnk]"

That is what has attracted me to this hobby called trad archery. People like Killy who go the extra mile to make sure that you are not taken advantage of. I have not have the privledge of meeting her yet (I will in Baltimore next month) but this woman has a heart of gold.
