Hello all, I'm going to be in San Antonio, Texas for about four months. May 30th to September 30. I'm going down there for some military training and will get evenings and weekends off. Does anybody know of any good hunting areas, or trad-groups down there? Also, When does javelina season run? Thanks, Tripper

Javelina is open year round, but many places will not want hunters during the deer season.
Even though it is very hot during the time you have some good night time hog hunting could be an option.

Twosheds,

Might be some oppourtunity to hunt on base or other military property.

All else fails, call Curtis Kellar at 7th Age Bowhunting (see his website). Good fella! I think that guy could hunt, find and kill hogs in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Good Luck,

OkKeith
In a moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.

Twosheds, give Curtis "Littlefeather" a call and setup a hunt with him. You'll love it. I do everytime I am in that area visiting my in-laws.

When you are not hunting, check out the Buckhorn Saloon (Hall of Horns) where you can see Bill Negley's 102# Bear Kodiak and some of his bow kills.

...and of course, the Alamo.

Macbow, you are mistaken about there being no closed season on Javalina. Please go to this URL or details on all species.  http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/season/animal_listing/
The only animals that do NOT have a state regulated closed season are hares and rabits, feral animals (i.e. hogs) and exotics. YTou may want to read the parts about nuisance animals too. That gets a little complicated. The exptics and ferals are generally regulated by the land owner and the animals on his land are considered to be his property, so it's pretty much pay per day hunting them with harvest fees etc.
Younger money, faster whiskey, older women and more horses.....or something like that..

Thanks guys for the help.  I called the Texas Wildlife Dept. and they are sending me a copy of their regulations. I appreciate it. Tripper

Thanks for the info Jim. No one has ever mentioned seasons when we hunted Javelina. I didn't figure out where the 50 counties are that have a season starting Sept. 1 and ending Aug. 31, probably south where we hunted, which pretty much covers the whole year.

Tripper, you can hunt hogs and exoctics year round.  In Texas nothing is free, you got to pay.  The newspaer in the want ads has a section on Hunting and Fishing.  Someone always got an ad for hogs.  You can google hog hunting in texas. You can find hogs 30 miles from San Antonio.  You can google hunting exotics in Texas and there are many of theses places close to san antonio.  I never heard of any Trad Club in San Antonio but there are some in Texas.  TBOT is one they just had a big shoot in Vanderpool.  You can google Texas Bowhunters of Texas and get their schedules.  In San Antonio you can shoot a 3D shoot at Camp Bullis a military training reservation.  They hold a shoot the second to last weekend of ea month except Oct, Nov, Dec.  Campbullis is just on the outskirts of san antonio.  If you need more info just email me when you get here.

The TBoT website is not operating at the moment due to the death of our webmaster, but should be up in the near future, it's tbot.org
