i was wondering im new to trad bow hunting shot compound bows for ahwile but it got old my question is i shoot carbon arrows out of my long bow and recurve what is a good total arrow weight for deer and i also plan on hunting bear with my longbow what is a good rule of thumb for weight to get good penatration on both these animals

General rule of thumb is 10 grains per pound of bow.  #55 = 550 grain arrow.  Myself personally, I shoot around a 550 to 600 grain arrow reguardless if I'm shooting a 45 or 60 pound bow. dino

In that weight bow you can expect somewhere close to 2.5 pounds per inch over 28".  The above suggestion is plenty on weight, but some like them much heavier.

Yeap what he said. Generally about 10gr per pound of bow weight. I'm shooting 53 pounds and my arrows are around 650.  But I like them heavy.

On another note, you're said you're drawing 31? Be watchful of those limbs, I know a guy that has blown apart a couple bows drawing 31 on a 28.
