**DONOTDELETE**

There has been some post on here about mentoring & Kids programs. So I got thinking, I'm going to do a Building along. Now everyone knows I'm no way near being a bowyer... Heck I only have 1 shooter self board bow build out of 8 or 9 tries.

I'll be doing it with fyrfyter43 son, Lee... I'll be going to home depot and looking to see what kind of wood they have.. I'm looking for hickory, cherry, walnut or even Red Oak. I know on red oak straight lines sides & Back, does this as go for the others... if I need a backing what is something I can get from Home depot that will work?

fyrfyter43 will be taking pic's and doing the thread on it..

if anyone has any good kinds bow lay-outs please post them..and well have  Lee pick the kind of bow to do ( I have only done flat bows ).

**DONOTDELETE**

a thread about the kind of bow I want to try  Would this work as a bow

Sal, What a great way to pass on the sport! I'm not going to tell Lee about this, but you and I both know how excited he'll be.

I'll be teaching him to build some cedar arras as well.

Thanx Eric, just helping out another gang member out.

Isn't it the best way to show what Tradgang means to me. We (The members)help out others everyday. Spine of arrows...making home made cover scent, building bows & Arrows and the list goes on.

I learned allot of things from other members, so why not help out another and bring in a youngster. This is something I wish could have happened to me when I was His age...

**DONOTDELETE**

Well I got 2 nice 1X2X96 Red Oak boards... I layied mine out and just need to cut off some then it's all plainer, scrapers & rasps for making the bow.Pic's to follow.

Sal came over last night to help Lee get started. They got the bow laid out, and the limbs are almost roughed out. I'll be helping Lee work on it some more tomorrow, depending on the weather.

I'll be signing Lee up as a TradGanger tomorrow, and he'll start a thread with pics of the build.

I cut out my bow today, forgot to take pic's...I have limbs bending good, I got the handle pre-shaped out. Tomorrow I'll get it to brace (5"-7"),I'm trying for around 60-65#@25.5"  My draw is 24" back of handle,This will give me a little leway...As long as I don't make it a 30# bow like last one.....LOL...

I'll be back down to over look Lee's first try at board bow... He is only using hand tools for now... He would like to have to bow done by Whittingham, But Eric & I both said that might not happen.

I did some scraping this morning & it's 50#@6" now ( my short string is 4" to short )I have to get another short string so I can brace it and finish tillering...

fyrfyter43

I'm just waiting for Terry and/or Rob to get back to me about registering Lee on here, then we'll start a new thread with pics of the build.
