I may have missed it, in fact I am sure I have , but how do I subscribe to a thread here ?

I'm not sure what you mean by subscribe? If you want to add something to a thread your reading just type it in and hit add reply and it will be added to the bottom of the page of the thread your reading.

is there a favorites  or save a thread to keep in a list ? I want like on almost every other board to be able to go back weeks or months later and check what new has been added to certian threads I am interested in as I don't log on here every day .ie- new posts to threads of interest only.Hope that explains what I meant....

Right click on threads title and send it to favorites. I have done this and it works.
