Many tree farm owners are open to recreational uses, including hunting, if you ask permission.  If the area is of interest, I'd certainly give it a try.

Out here certified means basicly renewable, non old growth, enviro friendly operated tree farm that has been certified as such.
Something like that.
The lumber that comes from the trees from those properties is also certified.
Makes the yuppies feel better when they build their very large wood homes.
All they need to do now is get their toilet paper certified.

It does not mean public . It means the landowner has signed up with the State Division of Forestry and is under some type of working management plan. Once they get the management plan done they are eligible for federal cost share moneies to do everything from habitat improvement to building walking trail, food plots, to watering holes. It is a good program and a good way to improve your land and get money to do it. It is designed to aid in the cost of these things if you pay someone to do the work. But if you do the work yourself, you still get the % of money and may even make money for doing improvements if you don't calculate in your own your own time. Steve

In WI there are tax breaks on land put into the tree growing systems.  Started for I believe the paper mills that have huge chunks of land here.  They open it up to public hunting and use and they get a huge tax break.  There are a couple levels of it here.  Private land owners can do the same thing but usually don't post it as such.  You have to go to the county courthouse and find out where they are!
