i recently recieved my new acs bow and as advertised it is smooth, fast, quiet and shoots as flat as kansas.  i do however have large hands and am struggling a bit with the grip.  the flething just nicks my hand.  i was wondering if anybody else with big mitts has this problem. i have tried several diffrent grips but just cant get comfortable. do tell...  does anybody shoot an elevated rest? if so what type?

John Havard is a big guy too.  Give him a call and talk about the difficulties your having.  He might have an answer for you.  In the mean time wear a golf glove when shooting to protect your hand.

Try rotating you cock feather to see if that helps.

I know I used to own a bow that nicked my hand bad only if I used LW feathers. When I changed to right wings they were fine but I could always tell when I grabbed a LW feather fletched arrow cause it would cut my hand.

Chris, the first thing I'd suggest is to perhaps alter your nock height a bit.  Often when fletching bites the top of my hand it's because I have the nock point too high above level.  If that doesn't cure the problem I'll build up the arrow shelf just a tad.  Try putting a matchstick or a bit of skived leather under the arrow rest material.  Sometimes just raising the rest a tiny amount will do the trick.

Mike, I thought you were deeply into pain and actually liked it when your fletching cut the top of your hand?

Try relaxing your bow hand some too. I have that issue more if I tighten my grip because it causes the muscle in the web between thumb and forefinger to swell upward and over the shelf.

I exactly had the same problem, having big hands...cause I severely injured my hand at each shot I used to use a neoprene glove but the feathers have quickly ruined it..so I have changed 2 things: I put a thicker leather rest plate (but it was not sufficient) and put back my fletching nearer of the nock and now it has completly disappeared...concerning the feathers I put them at 1.5cm of the nock against 3 cm before...I think that using a leather grip could too help to avoid hand ripping on the riser...I will see that on my new alu riser that I should recieve next week.

Take a Bear Weatherrest and slice off as much as you can that is under the flipper so it sets as low as possible. Use the supplied extra stick'em pad to bring the arrow out away from the cut past center. For me, arrow flight was much better off the rest and hand wasn't crowding the arrow off-shelf either.
