Kip: I always hesitate to give advice, but since you asked...here's my humble $0.02.  :)  I would anticipate that those weaker tips will only continue to worsen.  As you approach that 90 degree angle between the tips and string, you're changing the mechanics of how they're bent (which is why you get stacking).  As they weaken, they'll continue to take on more of the work.  As it stands, it looks like the inner third of each limb is not quite bending it's fair share, even with the reflex that's built in there.  Get that area bending a touch more, work out that soft spot on the left limb, and then see where you're at after 70 more shots.  If you come in low on poundage, consider tempering the belly or just leave it be!  :)

Alternatively, you could add a belly lamination under those tips to keep them stiff.  You could make them as long as 10-12" or at least just past the weak area.  It won't take much wood at all to stiffen them up.  This will transfer some of the load to the inner third of the limbs.  Combine that with some wood removal the first 8-10" out of the fades and you may find you come in right back on target.

At the end of the day, I'd say send a well-tillered bow that's a few pounds too light than one you're not satisfied with that came in right on the buzzer for weight.

Curt don't hesitate I asked for it

You are giving me exactly what I asked for.... confirmation that this one is not the one. It might be a good one at less weight with some work but it isn't the one I want to send my victim, just hard to walk away and start over. It seems I am struggling a bit more with bows lately, not sure why???

The bow is drawn 1" past its final draw and not near 90 degrees but I think you're right about the tips continuing to weaken.

Thank you

Man I have been shooting my 60 BBO bow I made recently that came in at 50#...I just may have this as a back up for my trade. Boy does it shoot fine... Just have to put a leather handle wrap on it.

Thadbow

I spent a little time with ******** bow yesterday and I have it about where I want it!  Now I just need to decide what color to dye the riser?  Brown, red, lighter, darker, heck, maby he wants it natural?
I brought it back to 28" and it looks like there is plenty of room before stacking. I hope he likes it!

Beautiful bow Thadbow! I'd say a little darker stain for the riser.

I agree Thadbow,,, I already have one natural colored maple bow and I'd like it to be a tad darker.  :goldtooth:

Looks like I can see some curl in the riser and darkening it will really make it stand out.

I'm gonna like that one.  :biglaugh:

Thad, beautiful bow. I ususally leave my maple natural, but I agree with the guys here that dark would also look nice. I wouldn't go red because you wont get the contrast with the red accent.

Again beautiful bow.

Kip:  Like I said, I always hate to give critical advice, but it sounds like I just confirmed your suspicions.  If it makes you feel any better, I let my first attempt pass because I just didn't trust it 100%.  Round 2 is working out much more to my liking.

Thadbow: I happen to like that natural-colored maple...very attractive.  It has great contrast with the other materials you used and will really pop with some finish on it.  But, you said "28 inches with plenty of room..."  Alas, my scrawny little arms only pull 26".  :)
