I recently bought a string tracker and I have a major concern that I have not seen addressed on here. What about the "whizzing" noise when the line comes off the spool???

I have used string trackers on deer and bear. There is no sound and the animals were not spooked.

When I shoot it the string just makes a "whizzing" noise as it rapidly comes off the spool. At least it doesn't seem to effect arrow flight.

It does whiz.  Only used it on pigs.  Cant say I was impressed.  The string usually broke within 100 yds.  It was nice following the string that far though.

rg176bnc, what # line did you use? was it the 17# that was included or did you buy the 30# line?

I've only noticed the whizzing noise on one animal and that was a bear.... I hope to try the string tracker some day. Sounds like a great idea.
 

I used a string tracker on one deer, and it "whizzed" bad.  The doe ducked the string and I hit her too high, breaking her shoulder.  She dropped on the spot as if hit by a rifle.  The string only connected me to the crippled deer ten yards from my tree!  She may have ducked a bit anyhow, but that whizzing sure didn't help any.  I won't use one again.

I have never used email or replied to any of these strings or whatever they are called, but here I go.  I used to experience the sound that ya'll are talking about until I sound proofed the string tracker unit.  First, the string spool fits loosely within the unit and tends to make noise when the bow is moved.  A small piece of cloth (about 1 to 1 1/2 inch circle of old sock) placed behind the spool within the unit closest to the riser will eliminate that noise and reduce the noice discussed.  I also duck taped the unit to the bottom portion of my side quiver on my BW PSA since that bow doesn't have a stabilizer insert.  I think the extra tape (camo flavor please) helps to insulate the unit.  I just bought a Bob Lee Classic elite with a stabilizer insert and plan to check that theory.  Otherwise, I love the unit and it makes tracking a breeze.  I do keep my shot under 15 yards, and I do have to bare shaft eache GT arrow, then make sure each arrow with my BH shoots perfect, and then shoot each arrow with BH using the string tracker. (I'm fealing a bit anal, but its worth it).  My only concern is that I'm addicted to the system and that they may quit making the replacement spools.

I plan to use it only on turkeys.  have tried it way back when with my wheel bow.  It worked fine.
I too stuff a piece of foam inside (toward the back) to "tighten" the spool up inside.  If I'd a been using it last turkey season- well, I may have got the one that flew off after the shot....
