was thinking about this the other day (as I don't have a blind and hate wearing camo masks).  I used burnt cork during 07 deer and thought it worked great.  was thinking about it for turkey but have a concern about a dark blob making turkey sounds being too appealing to other hunters.  thoughts/opinions???

I would say it shouldn't be an issue. I'd be more worried if you put blue, red, or white on your face. The cork wouldn't be much different than putting on camo make up.

Burnt cork is all I wear anymore, that is what I started out wearing in the turkey woods back in the late 70's early 80's it worked good then and now.

thanks guys.  I started doing it in 07 after a thread here.  seemed to work pretty good on the deer.

Since I have never used it, would you care to explain how to apply it?  It sounds like it would be better than buying camo paint.

 Take a piece of cork and light it on fire with a lighter, blow it out, let it cool off and rub on your face in whatever camo design you come up with. The let it cool off is VERY important!!

I use the cork from wine bottles. Glue the fat end of the cork to the lid of a plastic 35mm film canister. It makes a nice clean way to carry it in your pack,

I did the same as cheapshot, 'cept without the glue.  I just drop it in the film can, that way I can pre-burn it if I need to, drop it in burnt side up, tip it out carefully, apply then drop it back in.

I also found that 'toddler wipes' took the carbon off easily (but they do dry my face out a little bit.)

I always wear a orange scarf while sitting and an the scarf and hat while walking during the season. Jawge

Started that way and still use it. Works great and cleans up easily. BTW, still use cotton balls and 35mm film canisters attached with clothes pins for my scent posts. IMHO, nothing works better.(nut)
