When sitting in the blind mid December waiting for hours there are few pieces of gear that I like better than my warm face mask/hat thing. But anyone who has ever used a face mask (and has spit) has experienced the sponge like ability fleece has when put in contact with vapor from your breath.

Personally I usually just pack an extra mask, and swap it out when I can't stand the first one anymore. Are there any tricks to getting around spitty face masks, or is this just a harsh reality of cold weather hunting that's better left unexplained?

I would say cut a small hole for your warm breath to escape.

i have a bud who uses and swears by the heat exchanger style mask. it uses the heat from your breath to wark your whole head.

Cut a hole. It makes all the difference.

When I use to chew Redman, every time I wore my full face motorcycle helmet, wouldn't you know as soon as I got going i would give the face shield a load. A few years back I did the same to my camo head net while calling in a turkey.  With my insulated mask every time I lifted it to spit, I got a cold reminder how wet my face was. Now I just grow a beard for the late season, and gave up the chew.
