What is the difference between a shaft that is footed and one that is not? What is the benefit?

Gives you more support at the end of your arrow, guess that would be the benefit.

Buckeye,
A footed shaft is one that is not the same material the whole length of the shaft.  I carbon can be footed with some aluminum at the last couple tip inches, a woodie can be footed, most often at the tip end, with a different wood.  Usually footing is done to affect two things, FOC and or strength around the tip area.
Hope this helps.

You kidding me guy's...I did not make that thing,no way.I hope I did not make you think that I did and if I did sorry about that.I can't do that kinda work.My friend made that arrow for me in about 1998 I've never even had the nerve to shoot it.And unless it were some really special hunt for some really special critter.I will most likely only enjoy it's beauty for now..You know want the killer is ?? I only have that one and he built it at 65# spine right on the money, for me to arrow an elk with...but I did not use it because it was so nice looking...By the way,I will get a pic of the noc,no joke the noc is made of purple heart also. It's a true work of art....again sorry if I lead anyone to believe I made the arrow..bowdoc

Don't mean to highjack your thread...but while we on this, what does "swagged" mean? I have seen it describing shafts or arrows....?
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

Snag swagged on an aluminum arrow,is what a basic taper would be on a wood shaft...the swagging generaly is much shorter then the taper on wood. But somewhat compresses and draws out the tubeing of the aluminum shaft makeing it smaller on one end. Here is a pic of the noc end of a swagged aluminum shaft...I have some that are swagged for broadheads also in my shop.I will get a pic asap...bowdoc
