I'm footing some Gold Tip XTs with a 3/4 inch section of a Easton 2115 Lite. The Lite fits good and I had it so I thought I'd give it a try with judos.
For those of you that have done this, do they hold up with the aluminium arrow inserts or do you go with brass? I've got aluminium so I thought I'd use them.
Something I'll through out there for those that have a drill or better yet drill press. Take your cut off footing section and secure it "lightly" in the drill chuck. Turn the press on and with 60 grit sand paper you can put a smooth bevel on the outside of both ends of the foot. This stops the foot from hanging up when your pulling it out of something.

Alum inserts will work with footings.The key to making any carbon last,is using a good slow cure epoxy and cleaning the insert and the inside of the shaft.I roll up emory cloth and abrade the inside of the shaft and the insert.

That way when your arrow hits something really hard,the whole shaft absorbs the shock instead of being able to drive the insert back and split the shaft.

If you want to save time chamferring the end of the shaft just buy a rcbs reloading chamfer tool works great and cleans out the inside of the alum shaft too.

Thanks Dale and I'm in total agreement with you on the sanding, cleaning and use of epoxy. Except if you break off a threaded adaptor,  she's all done! I think the use of hot melt glue has led to alot of the complaints on various carbon shafts.

I live in an area thats nothing but rocks and hard clay and my judos get abused. I'm thinking the footing will add a little more strength and it brings my point weight and FOC to the same point as my broadheads.

I'm also thinking of using glue-in/glue-on brass adaptors for attaching the judo directly to the shaft. I'll epoxy the insert to the shaft and hot melt the judo to the insert. The arrow should take almost any hit and I can still remove and replace the judo.
