Its slippery elm or also known as red elm. I cut it early December.

I tuned up the bandsaw I got from my dad a few years ago.  It belonged to my grandpa.  An old Craftsman that's probably around 50+ years old.  The blade guides had 1/8" gaps on either side of the blade where they wore through.  Put a new 3/8" 4TPI blade on (had to special order because no one sells 80" blades around here).  Made a rip fence out of a 2x6 that I ran through the jointer to square up, and re-sawed a test piece -- only .002 off!  I call that close enough for who it's for!  Getting closer to being able to make my own lams!

One of two things will happen; it'll either work or it won't.

Dave, I love that elm bow!  Yes, put some skin on it.

I put my second coat of tru oil on a 62" NTN osage self bow today.  I'll post some pics when I get all the finish on it.  Got some beaver tail to put on the grip when it dries.

I also finised tiller a littl short bend through the handle osage.  It is 48" NTN.  I am drawing it 25".  Right now it is 45#.  No pics yet.

had an awesome hunt this morning- walk and stalk in a new area.
came across fresh tracks in the sand- set up, and started to call- i immediatly got a response about 100 yards away( i geuss!!) with gentle coaxing and patience i got the deer in to about 20 feet. i could see its face poking through a young hemlock- couldnt make out if it was a buck or a doe- thick brush. it looked a long time through and around me, (in my asat suit,) looking for the other deer in distress. couldnt see anything, and it left again slowly back throught the bush without ever giving a shot opportunity.

amazing morning!!

Got a BBO to 27.5 on the tree today, have it stained and first coat of tung oil on it. Riser is not shaped yet in these pictures.

It's okay, I guess:) LOL

I flipped the tips on an osage board bow I'm working on for my son's buddy. It's the first time I've actually flipped the tips of a bow before. Used my heat gun, some wooden blocks, and a few small bar clamps. I'll see how well they turn out tommorrow afternoon.

While I was raking leaves in the front yard this afternoon I may have lucked into another snake skin. One of my neighbors stopped and asked if I'd be interested in a timber rattler skin.
Ya know I said, "Yes!"   :bigsmyl:

Looking good Roy.

I heat treated the elm I'm working on and played with my trade bow.

I put a couple of scrapes on the bow that may be my trade bow. Will have to see how she responds to my ministrations.
Roy that one is looking real good. is that the one going to Pearlie, or did you finally get one finished for him.

I squirted a lil finish on an all bocote bow, then went shed huntin for a bit, found these, but no sheds.

Oh, I also found a good scrapeline/trail with some decent trees along it! Where its at, the deer would move anytime of day/night!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Nice looking bows Roy & DVS.
Worked on fine tuning the tiller on my trade bow, close, but not quite there yet. Broke one of the pulleys on my tree while pulling it to about 27", made my heart skip a few beats.  All seem ok so I put about 50 more arrows through it today just to make sure.

bamboo

I shot arrows till I could not see in the dark. Outside in my T-shirt at 70 degrees. Amazing how it didnt make a difference from 20 to 31 yards, that 9 inch paper plate got hit about the same.

Mike,
That is seriously ugly, all those lines on the back and belly, plus that red and yellow in the riser are just hideous. Send it my way and I'll get rid of it for you.
One of these days I am going to get one of your bows. Like a good wine, they are just getting better with time.

Well I reorganized the rack up in the barn and finally got the logs from a couple weeks ago off the truck and tucked in for drying.
Dang that locust is a heavy wood...
