Red, Stan was a super nice guy. I got the pleasure of duck hunting with him a few times when I was younger. He will be missed as will his harmonica playing.

Spliced a couple of osage billets together and planed a boo backing to 1/8". Then cut the profile in the boo. Hopefully I'll glue the backing onto the osage tomorrow.

I reworked the grip on my hickory bow, stained and put a coat of finish on it.
I cut the bacote riser out for the Hill bow and pretty well have it sanded down. Should be ready for glueup some time this week, time permitting.

Tried my hand at making wing bone calls. I used the bones from our Xmas bird. I also used pine pitch glue to hold the sections together. I think it worked great. It holds and fills big gaps.

Never made or used one before, but hey. I think they are kinda of cool.

The longer one I think sounds pretty good. I will dress them up a bit later. I may make some sinew cordage for a lanyard. Heck a turkey feather or two hanging might look good.

Started another Deflex/reflex to replace one I was building for a client. I work alone and some dumbo forgot to flip up the side washers on the form.Took it out of the hotbox and nearly threw up. Stack had slid every which way and was a total wipe out. Had some great timber in the riser too. Gotta get this one right before I can start on my tradebow for ###@$%^&

Saturday my buddy and I got out in the woods with my chainsaws and cut down 3 trees. I now have some cherry, hickory and a couple very heavy for their size, black locust logs. Yesterday, I split up a locust log that has been drying for a year or two. Got 4 good splits and 1 small stave off of that log. I think my white wood needs will be OK for the next few years...  :D

Cool calls Kelly - like to see a pic when they are prettied up.  Can you make them sound like a turkey?  I have a hard time with a box or slate call!

How do the calls sound Kelly? I have a hard time making turkey noises with mine. It usually just comes out as noise.  :(

Dave,
I have never used one, but the longer one I can get some sounds that might fool a turkey. I will get work on them at some time and will get pics up when I can.

Roy from Pa

Chris that's not bad for your first bow, congrats.

Let me see if I got this right Kelly and Woodie Carver make turkey calls that don't make turkey sounds? :)  LOL

Dmaxshawn

making veneers  and A-boo lams hopefully to get a few laid up this week

wood carver 2

Roy, it ain't the calls that don't make turkey sounds. It's the turkey using the calls. At least in my case.   :o    :knothead:
I like making wingbone calls, but I can't use one to save my life. When I honk one, it saves a turkeys' life though.

I worked on an elm I have had speed drying in my hot box. A week at 100 degrees it feels and works like its pretty dry. I've got it floor tillered and I'm hoping that I can keep all of the prop twist as well as some of the heartwood in limbs. I haven't heat treated it yet or even heat corrected it.  dont think I'm going to have to.

Then I worked on my trade bow.
