Sometimes I'm pretty good at smelling snake oil.

For the past year or so there's been at least one company promoting carbon arrow shafts with "Front of Center Design". I believe their commercials tout it as "weight forward technology". I've kind of suspected it was bunk.

Today I was shooting a field round at the archery club when I found one of these arrows by Carbon Express -- camo up front, black on the back and "Front of Center Design" on the logo. It was very slightly cracked at the nock end, so instead of throwing it in the lost arrow bucket, I took it home. After stripping it down to a bare shaft (no nock, fletching, insert or point) and making sure it was clean, inside and out, I decided to see just how much so-called FOC this thing had.

The math is actually very simple. It's a 28 1/4" shaft, and the balance point is dead on at 14 1/8". So the FOC is, well...zero.   "[dntthnk]"

I have always wondered how much weight the camo dip could really weigh. Now I know.....nothing! LOL

I suspect that you would need to trim these shafts from the nock end to keep FOC.  I wonder if the owner trimmed the point end to get to 28" and threw away his extra $30.  Just a thought.

Jason, I recently checked some at an archery shop as I was curious and they indeed were heavier up front. A 30" shaft balance at around 17"s fron nock end. These were $140 a dozen though and I would rather just add weight by using brass inserts or heavier heads. These were just being cut for a customer and they were actually a tad thicker walled near the point end. Shawn
