I was talking with someone the otherday. Well known bowyer/elk hunter. His recommendation was to add weight tubes and standard weight tips ,instead of front loading inserts etc...I believe he said arrow flight over 20 yards (distance) and accuracy was better this way instead of 300gr or so upfront. Any thoughts on why, this would be?

The weight tubes to not change shaft spine as adding point weight will.

Weight tube pros: they give you a heavy arrow and you can take them out if you wish.

Weight tube cons:  even with heavy crimping they would occasionally send back a nock or loosen an insert.

Brass insert pros: high FOC (23% for me) and locked in with JB Weld as written by the good Dr. Ed.

I'm going with the brass inserts but the tubes standing in the corner will do in a pinch.  I hope you can try them both.

I use brass inserts and weight tubes to bump up the weight.

If you find a weight tube that works, why wouldn't you leave it and solve the problem of it kick your stuff out like your insert or your nock ?

If you find an arrow that works, why not leave it in a permanent state ?

The only reason why arrow flight might not be good is if someone put more weight up front than what the arrow is spined for.

LKH  Bzzzzzz? Are they noisy?

I use the 5 GPI weight tubes in my GT's all the time.  There are a couple of things to make sure of a proper installation.  If properly installed they WILL NOT buzzzzzzzz.  If you DON'T install them correctly, then yes, they'll buzz on ya.

1.  Make sure you have the right diameter tube.  Different brand of arrows require different diameter tubes.

2.  Cut em about 0.020 or 0.025" long.  That way when you press the nock in place it will compress the tube just a bit and prevent it from rattling.

3.  Glue in your nocks with Goat Tuff.  If you need to replace a nock, run an 8-32 tap into it, heat the tap just a bit and the glue will soften to allow the old nock to come out and it will not damage the shaft if you are careful.

I only tried them once and they buzzed.  If you cut them long, the nock blows out.  I suppose I could have glued them in, but then you ruin the arrow if the nock gets buggered.  I'm sure you might overcome my problems, but I just went to the CE terminator hunters at 11gpi and that suited me.
