Well Brent, You are about to move to the best part of AZ. I live about 2 min. from the archery range  :bigsmyl:  We have 4-5/ 3-d shoots a year at our range.
You might want to think it over before you make this move...that's long enough.....now get packed.
They also have some great shoots in the higher country in the summer among the ponderosa pines. Shoot, there is just nothing to do out here  :biglaugh:

Chort

hormoan

I need a shooting buddy Chort, kinda thinking of you  :D  And a mentor to Az.

Chortdraw

The only time I go to Phoenix is under duress or if they have a winter shoot at Ben Avery shooting range. Also I head down hill to do a little quail hunting. Gets a might hot down there. Great for lemons, oranges and grapefruit though.
Got a archer in the club that kicks our butt at the shoots. His name is Chris and shoots a black widder. He usually wins the silver arrow shoot we have which is a tough one to shoot, but a lot of fun.

hormoan

Oh I'm not long in the valley    :readit:   I'm on the side of the mountain with you   :D   in very short order!

I just got back from the TAA shoot in Mesa. It may be the last shoot the Traditional Archers of AZ has. As of 11am when we left, there was only 15 registered shooters. The last TAA shoot in Prescott only had 25 shooters. TAA's spring 2002 shoot had over 275 shooters. I don't know what happened to all the trad archers in the state.
The good news is all the 3D shoots around the state have a traditional class.
As far as gold panning goes, most of the gold bearing rivers and creeks are under claim or private property. There is a section of Lynx Creek, just outside of Prescott in the national forest, for recreational panning. You can only use a pick, pan and shovel. I live in Walker, an old gold mining ghost town, about 10 miles south of Prescott on Lynx Creek. Lynx Creek was one of the richest gold deposits in the state.
Chortdraw, I'll give you a call to go shooting this coming week.

highcountry

Oh BUMMER, we did not know about that shoot in Mesa.  Could use the sunshine too.

csbullseye

highcountry, the club mailed out over 200 flyers last month. I posted it on Trad Gangs trad events forum and didn't get a single reply. It's a real shame when a small group of people go through all the work to set up a great shoot for traditional archers, and nobody shows up.

I'll just bet ya when Heirmoan gets down there you'll grow in Hordes and Gaggles at these shoots        He's an event in himself

Then if ya can show him where to catch SALMON and let him fire up his smokers, you'll need to build some STADIUMS to hold yer shoots in.

csbullseye

No salmon fishing in AZ, great fishing for just about everythig else.

Hi Brent,

Best wishes and good luck on the move.  Not to wizz in your Wheaties, but I made a similar move a few years ago and think often about why.  But as we all know sometimes you just have to.

But your more "experienced" in life than I and I am certain the move will be a good thing for ya.  Plus these winters are getting pretty boring.

It was great to meet ya while you were here... and I hope to share a campfire with you sometime in the future.

Its not about the weapon used, its about the adventure involved.

Brent, So do we michigan boys get to sign up on "future hormoan" hunt program?  I'm sure we could pack a few truckloads of us up about mid winter for a drive down...we'll bring ya a few coolers full of snow/ice for free even!
