I bought a bow from a member of my archery club. It belonged to his son, who died suddenly.

It is a 62" takedown recurve that says Sky Archery USA. Hunter Express.
Do any of you veterans know anything about these bows?
Was that a Division of Hoyt USA?

Any info on this bow would be greatly appreciated. Value? Availibility?

It's not a Hoyt division
I think it was a little cousin about Hoyt family
We find these bows in France around 88, 89 I think .
I shoot one for one year, pretty smooth bow, but I think it was not ready to shoot fast flight
One piece recurve, take down, and long bows
Natural, grey, green, brown action wood

Sky archery was a company started by Earl Hoyt after he sold hoyt name.They produced trad bows in the old Hoyt factory in Bridgeton Mo. untill Earls death.....

Matthews produces their Traditional bows on the Sky Archery forms(they bought the company). Very over-priced for the new ones and not as good a shooter as what you have there now.

Curtinmo and vermonster are right on.  I ordered the rogue hybrid way back when, eventually the order was cancelled and I received a refund.  I still wish I could have gotten one.  I've seen a few come and go but not in my weight.  I guess they never produced many of that design but it sure did look good, especially when there wasn't as many hybrids around.  Rest In Peace Earl.

You guys are right about Earl Hoyt and Sky Archery.
I ran a bear camp for years and Rob Kaufhold of Lancaster Archery used to come up with family and friends. One year he came up to hunt with the prototype of a bow that Earl Hoyt wanted him to try. I thought the bow looked unusual but I liked it. He ordered one for me from Earl Hoyt and the next time that he came up he brought it to me.

I am fortunate to own a couple of Sky bows, a Rogue hybrid and an Eagle recurve.  I believe most of the Sky bows were FF compatible.  I agree with Vermonster that the Mathews versions are grossly overpriced.  You might do a search through the clasifieds to see what the Sky bows have gone for in the past on Trad Gang - but I'd suggest you shoot it first, you'll probably fall in love.....

I read somewhere that the Roque was the first of the hybrid longbows......Hoytmans is a metal handle takedown-- inspiration for the warf bows .That Earl sure could design.I used to shoot indoors with him when I was a kid and he always had new stuff he was trying.

In the modern trad dvd the dude shoots a sky conquest.  a very expensive bow that I see more on euro web sites.

I used to see alot of those in a shop I lived in in the early 90's.  Shot real well.  Most guys there favored the Black widow but the Sky would run right with them and cost about 30% less.  Nice bow. I tried to find one when I rekindled my interest in shooting.

I thought the Rogue was the first hybrid, but it's hard to be "first" at anything anymore.  As they say: nothing new under the sun.  All I know is I loved the look of that thing from the first time I saw it.  At that time it seemed radical and it looked fast just sitting there.  Earl's wife offered to send me one that was 66" if I remember correctly.  That was after they had missed the delivery date by several months, but I was holding out for the 62" and it never came.  I don't even know if the 62" was ever produced, the only ones I've seen were longer.  

Whether that was the 1st hybrid or not, Earl and family left their mark on archery and I feel greatful having just been able to speak to him on the phone.

Actually, when they first came out, they were called Ambush, but there was some trademark issue with that name, and they changed to Rogue.  I was living in St Louis at the time, and got to go to the Bridgeton facility to pick it out;  I was fortunate enough to be able to meet Mr Hoyt.  It was the first bow that I bought new, still have it, still my favorite....

The Sky Hunter Express was a hunting version of the Sky Medalist , which was the same riser as the Hoyt Pro Medalist or as its commonly referred to..the TD2 riser.

Ive got  a sky archery t/d camo in my shop right now.(45#@28",64")It belongs to a costumer who just ordered a bow.He wants to sale it.Anyone have a interest p/m me.
