I just bought a Bear Kodiak Magnum, and decided to use it for bowfishing. Well I was wondering what is a good tape on reel? I don't want to drill any holes in the front but, it has two holes tapped in the side for a quiver. Just looking for a cheaper reel that is dependable.

You might try a AMS Retriever reel. It should bolt up in place of the quiver.

Three Rivers sells both tape on or screw-on drum reels. They are fairly cheap.
  sullysbowfishing.com  sells a tape on shoot through reel as well as drum reels.
  If you get serious about fishing,  the Retriever should screw right to the quiver bushings.

robslifts, now that is what I was looking for, I like the AMS but, way to much maybe if I found a used one.

Is there any difference between the slotted 311 and the 310R?

The slotted is for use with a float system for really big fish.  Mostly salt-water guys stick an arrow in a ray or shark and let the fish take the arrow, some line and an attached float.  That is what the slot is for...so the line can slide out.  Here in Ohio, I've never had the need for floats.  In fact, I have seen the slotted reel be a big pain in the butt while shooting because the line tends to get caught in the slot and makes it a pain to reel...even if the slot is taped over.

Bottom line:  unless you plan to go after really big, tough fish the 310R is all you need.  I love my lefty version.  I wouldn't shoot fish with anything else.

Spend the extra on the AMS Retriever Reel, you won't be sorry!!!

Another option is to put in a stabilizer insert ( 3R's has them for a few bucks)on the riser,then pick up a zebco bowfishing reel and reel seat. $30 for reel about 9 bucks for seat. That would be a better option than a shoot thru or drum reel, but less than the AMS.

+1 on the Traditional Gadget Adapter mentioned above.

Those adapters from 3Rivers work fantastic w/ AMS retrievers, and they don't hurt the bow at all.  Started using them last year on an old Bear bow that I didn't want to damage.  Shot lots of fish and never had a problem.

I think the ams is the only way to go personally I use that with a gadget adaptor on a 50lb longbow  it works awesome  it is worth the money up front  i lost more arrows because line tangling in the hand wound drums and when I shot the line would break and if you could find the arrow you got it back  and then you never got the fish  but I am not that good of a shot anyway..   also it is ten time as fast reloading the arrow not having to hand wind the drum

I bought my first AMS back around '93, and it's still working great. I couldn't begin to guess how many thousands of fish I've shot with it over the years.

Another plug for the AMS and the traditional gadget adapter. Definately more enjoyable to use than the hand wrap drum reels.
