Well,
The mail came today with a little surprise......The 58" demo recurve. After unpacking, I have to say it's very well made and finished. All glue lines are nice and tight and the bow is well-balanced and light in the hand.

I strung it up and did a little fiddling with the tune, since it's a bit lighter in draw weight than I normally shoot. Plus, the grip is different than any I've tried before and this took a bit of getting used to.

Now, don't get me wrong, I haven't tried as many different bows as some of y'all, but as you can see from the pic, the design is a bit extreme, IMO. It does allow you to repeat your grip, though. I took a half dozen arrows and deliberately put the bow down and picked it back up between shots, just to see if it would group for me. It surely did, I'm an arrow poorer than I was this morning. Also, it's very forgiving of arrow spine and weight. I shot everything from 45# to 65# spine weights, and 445gr all the way up to my "Moose Sticks", 805gr maple arrows. I only have 10yds to shoot in the basement, but it would put any and all into the same 3" spot. Pretty good, if you ask me. Plus it's quiet and fairly fast, or so it seems to the ear (no crony).

Overall, it's a beautiful bow and a real shooter. When I build up my bow budget again, this is right at the top of the list, to be sure.

J.D., fine job and thanks for the chance to try these bows out.      :clapper:

I tell ya, I'm going to be sore tomorrow. This is a hard bow to put down, if ya know what I mean. The more I shoot it, the more I want one. Perhaps a 56" 57#@26", cocobolo riser with curly maple limbs........... don't worry, just drooling out loud here. And I'm serious about this thing shooting. Here's a group consisting of a 45-50 POC, a 50-55 POC, a 55-60 ash, a 60-65 POC, and a 60-65 maple. All at 10 yds and better group than I've shot with most bows I've tried.

Only my Appalachians have shot better for me. It would be interesting to try try one of these with a grip more like my Appy's.

i just got my whisperstik.  the bow shoots as good as anything out there. period. it is also stunning to look at and the price is the best deal out there.  as someone already stated on this forum...the whisoerstik is a sleeper waiting to be found.

Kevin,
Those are nice bows, Wilderness Dreams near me stocks them.
I have a feeling JD will make you a 'curve with a longbow handle style, I bet it would be reasonably priced as well! I was actually thinking of putting the Palmer on the consignment rack there and buying a Voo Doo.

Andy,
You're right about the bows being nice and I'm sure I could get one with the grip I want, it's just a matter of talking the CFO into it. Be sure to send me pics and a review if ya get a Voodoo. I'm still loving the Fedora, especially since I got the heavier limbs for it. Also, it's tax refund time, so put that Palmer up over on the classifieds and see what happens.

Kevin, could you please tell me what the riser material is on the demo bow?

Is it Dymondwood Cocobolo?

Kevin L.

I can't say for sure what it is, but it doesn't seem to be Dymondwood. It's one piece of hardwood, as far as I can tell. Looks like a real light cocobolo.

The riser wood in the demo bow is Pau Ferro.  I'm glad everyone is liking it so far.  JD

I recieved my Whisperstik early last week, and I absolutely love it...

I will get some pics up thi week.. Stunning finish, and a nice shooter.

JD builds a very nice bow, and it is quick and quiet...

Kevin L.

After another day of working in the shop a bit and shooting a bit (actually, more shooting than working), I have to say that JD knows what he's doing. I had some reservations about the grip, but after only a few days with it, it's rapidly becoming one of my favorite designs. No matter how I twist myself up, standing, kneeling, sitting, twisting back to my off-side, the grip is 100% positive in my hand. This bow is now at the top of my wish list. Way to go JD!!    :notworthy:

Sticks only

He will build the grip the way you want it. I have two of them and all I have him do is flatten out the back of the grip and its perfect for me.
