That is gorgeous, Knute.  The whole matched set is really something special.  Either keep it or get it into a museum.

In the 1994 Oct/Nov issue of TBH Gene Wensel interviewed John Schulz. Howard Hills wife said "Among the thousands of archery friends and admirers of my late husband Howard Hill, if I were picking one to describe and explain Howard's methods in every detail, I know of know one who I would trust to do so correctly, fully and in detail as I do John Shulz.

Raptor archery has a all bamboo bow reduced to 275.00 what a deal, wonder if Ted will geve me a commission. LOL.

John  Schulz built very good longbows, his string follow as some call it bows are very sweet shooting bows, they are rather sluggish in performance and that is the trade off.
If you have shot Craig Ekins bows you have shot the same bows in my opinion. Years ago Johns bows were better finished and had a loyal following which included two friends of mine who owned several.I have had the pleasure of shooting several of Johns bows and they were classic Hill style bows, one was the backset bow and I loved it as I did the same thing made by my friend Chuck Jones who made the straight limb version. Again sweet to shoot but too sluggish in performance for my taste anyhow.
I would love to own one of Johns bows in my weight but alas those days and the prices are beyond me now.

I only recently learned that John made bows, I saw his video back in the late 80's and it helped me polish my bow technique.  Howard Hill must have just done what came natural because I was self taught and did almost the same thing, but John Schulz described it so well that it improved my shooting and speed immensely.
Does anyone know where he is or wether he teaches or anything (it's probably already on this board if i just look).

Well since this one came back up I'll add my good fortune to it. I finally managed to buy one of John's bows thanks to a fellow TG'er. It's one of John's "Favorite" string follow glass bows with a yew core, and I absolutely love it! No loss of cast here, and oh what a sweet shooting bow!






John's son Steve is now building the American Longbow again, and I have his contact info. If anyone wants it just send me a PM.

I picked up a like new Schultz 76# longbow at the ETAR a couple of years back.  The bow shoots beautiful.  By the way, I paid $200.00 for it.

Ken, you are going to have to quit posting pictures of that bow unless you want to sell it to me. Flint

Flint, you know it's like showing off your best girl or that classic car you always wanted! I can't help it, it's just too sweet! If I ever do decide to let it leave (read as "from my cold dead fingers   :D  ) you'll be the first to know bud! By the way, where are the pics of that new Miller of yours huh!
