Hey Bjorn, you need to tell us the story of that fine looking hog.  Did you take him on the Tejon Ranch or somewhere else?  How big was he?

kennym

Yep,need story, more pics ,bow specs and anything else you can think of!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Bjorn's posts are always worth reading. Since he's obviously a hog hunter, I guess he can't be Ahlblad....oooooh.
  ;)    :D

Guys, I am humbled-and it should be my young son's picture up there because he got me into archery a few years ago; but he will get his chance soon, I'm sure.
So give me a few minutes to get over my surprise and I'll be right back! Thanks.

Cupcake

I bet he owes it all to the Spine-O-Meter.

I am delighted to be a participant on this great Board and honored to have my turn at the top of the page. Thank you for the opportunity to talk about our archery passion. First of all my son, Adam, asked for a 'real' bow for his 9th birthday and that's how we got involved.
We joined a local club, Bowhunters Unlimited and met a dedicated group of archers who showed us that those stubborn Grizzlies could be made razor sharp and right spot on that 3D could be hit just so.
Here is Adam 2 weeks after his 12th birthday with his first kill, this was two years ago, and his first trip hunting something other than ground squirrels:

He used a 53# St. Charles Thunderbird, which at his draw produced about 40# and a Raptor shaft tipped with a very sharp Grizzly.

We have not had the opportunity to hunt Tejon Ranch yet, Charlie-thanks for bringing up that name.

Hillside Ranch is 4000 acres of unfenced land and a hunter's paradise. There are beautiful year round streams, ponds, valleys and woods, and lots of acorn producing oaks to attract the hogs and deer.

The hog that I killed was a typical 'breeder boar' covered in scars, some fresh and some old ones too. Probably 6 years old and weighed a bit over 150 pounds.
At the risk of showing the picture too many times here it is again, this time with Jeremy's little neck knife being put to work

As to my equipment; I used a 49# ACS CX and a Raptor shaft with a STOS broadhead.

Here's the bow at a practice session

And yes, cupcake without your Spine-O-Meter our arrows would not have flown so clean and found their proper mark so well.
Adam and I both use ACS CX's now and try to make that our only bow, much to the dismay of the rest of the bows on our racks.
Thanks again for reading our story and the opportunity to share our experiences with such a great group of people.

Thanks for the smile, good job sir.
I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.

Congrats Bjorn,
I would have to concur with the assessment that your turn at the top is well deserved.  :clapper:

Great job!! very happy for you and your son (100% jealous).Love the t shirt he has on, California camo. Jimmy Hendrix!!
Now about the go to bow. Judging from your bow wall, I think you have quite a few go to bows (at least in my opinion), the acx must really be something.
I agree Mr Lamb,Bjorn trad hunts w/ his boy, he can't be Albad. that was dang funny!!

Adam nice camo shirt, If Jimmy bow hunted instead of doing drugs he might still be here.

Kingwouldbe; one of these days I hope we tie into the likes of the beasts you and your group have hunted and killed; some of them looked like pre historic monsters.
I have not seen better anywhere. Are those pics still up in the 'Dangerous Game' section?

Bjorn...I noticed Adam had on a Jimi Hendrix T-shirt....too cool!

Congrats! My son has been busy with career and a wife and 3 daughters, but we managed to take a few days, this season to hunt together...sure was nice to revist the 'ole days", just like you and your son are making now!

BTW I can still outshoot Jason...but the wrestling is pretty much out for me these days  :D

Ya, there still there but this is about you and your son.   :clapper:

Tell us about the hunt and the shot, how did you get him out, how did he taste.

Shaun

Nice shooting Bjorn. Love the practice photo where you ignored the McKenzie scoring circles and shoot the pig in the real kill zone. Great choice of bows and hunting partners. (Let me know if that St Charles gets too lonely on the bow rack, I would take it for a walk in the woods anytime)
