I am really good at guessing what carbon I need but I never can get the woodies right.

I have a 47@28" Shrew Gold, I draw probably 27-27.5" and I want my arrow to be 29" BOP with a 125gr point. What Wood spine should I get for a tapered Cedar? And how about a parallel Cedar?

I'll be watching this thread closely.Lewis you and I are almost exactly alike. My Super Shrew is 50#s @ 28"s. I draw 26 1/2, 27"s so she's around 47#s. I really like the way my 27 3/4" Gold Tip Trads fly out of her with a 145gn field tip or a 150 gn Magnus Stinger. If I ever want to try WOODIES out of her you I'll have the answer. Thanks Tom

Lewis, Shrews like heavy arrows!!  I would probably shoot a 60-65# spine out of that bow.  You might be able to get away with 55-60# but this is where I would start.  Typically all my Shrew shoot about 15# over the draw weight and I like you draw 27.5" and shoot a 29" arrow.  If you have any other questions dont hesitate to ask.

I agree with Tim, with a high performnce LB ya want to add 10-15#s of spine to the draw weight plus 5#s for every inch over 28"s. In your case we will say you are drawing 45#s add the 15#s that is 60#s and than 5 more #s for the inch over 28"s your arrow is. that is 60-65# spine, if ya could get a set that is right around 62#s, I bet you would be dead on. I have a old 54" Shrew 52#@26" my draw.. I use ash 60-65# @ 27"BOP topped w/160 grn points.

I agree with Tim, but you could also ask Ron.  By the way, he is now selling some awesome looking wood arrows.

Lewis,

Call or e-mail Ron.  He knows those bows like no other.

lets see, 59# @ 32", so 59+15+20/30= 94 to 104
dang, where the heck am I going to find 34" arrows with 105# spine?     The telephone company?

FYI Lewis, I have a 51# SS Gold, and had Ron send me some of his Sitka Supreme arrows.  They are spined 65#, they are cut just a hair over 29", with a draw of 28" and I shoot a 125 gr. field tip and a 135 gr. broadhead......they fly great and seem to fall in line with what everyone else has said about the 15# over equation.

Bob, that does not apply for guys with over the 28" draw, in your case you would just add 20#s plus 5#s more for the wieght of the 125 grain head. You would need 85-90# spine if ya have a hifgh performnce bow. Shawn

Yep 65# should be right. I agree with Shawn, 62 or 63# would be perfect.I would bet that Paul at Elite Arrows could get you at the 62 to 63# spine.
