My little brother was on leave a few months back, I took him out to shoot a bit, just as a means of wasting some time while he was on the West Coast.

Well.. it apparently stuck, this morning he called for something unrelated, and we ended up discussing my new set of arrows and the quiver I had finished up.  He then remembered that he'd been wanting to talk to me about getting some gear for himself, and possibly his kids.

So here's my question, he's out in the DC area, living in Maryland.  I'd like to send him somewhere that he can find some decent starter equipment.  I can build him a quiver and ship it out.. but arrows (which I'm sure he'll break plenty of), and a bow and the like are a different question.  Come to think of it, he'll probably need a place to shoot too...

So, I can use the phone book.. but getting opinions might be a better bet, I'll use the directory as a last resort.

edit:  It is the DC area, so really.. any of the surrounding states would be good too.

Thanks,

Ivan

Try Tom Parsons at Kimsha Archery in Charlotte Hall, MD.  He's probably a hour away from DC area.  He makes some really fine bows and arrows.  Lots of accessories in his shop. All bows are custom and the workmanship is superb.  I have six or seven of his longbows including 2 of his 3 piece longbows.  His 3 piece longbow is the best shooting bow I have.  His number is (301) 934-5234 and his website is  www.kimshaarchery.com.

yup, I was just about to suggest T.P. (Tom Parsons) but eagle eye beat me to it. Tom makes great bows, I have one of his 3pc.'s and it shoots awesome. He also is one of the best arrowsmiths around, and he has many accesories in his shop. He is also one of the niceest guys I have met and will be very helpful to anyone he shoots with on things like form and shooting because he's been at it a long time.

Killdeer

I sent you a PM.

TP is out hunting for two weeks, but try him when he gets back. How far does your brother want to drive? He can talk to Mr. Bowes at Bowes and Arrows over in Alexandria or go to B&B Archery out in Manassass (I think) or pm me and I will give contact info and maybe we can get him sorted out.

We should have shotguns for this kind of deal.

If he lives near me, he can try out one of my bows (I have 4, 3 recurves and a hybrid TD longbow) and if he likes the styles, he can buy everything he wants at the baltimore shoot in May. Lot's of variety there that he can actually try before he buys.

Thanks for the information folks.  I'm sending him a list of information.  Hopefully it'll give him something fun to do.

Gotta work on that part.. he's not a forum kind of fellow.  I've given him the address... it's up to him beyond that.

At the very least, he owes himself a trip to the BBTC (Baltimore shoot). Details are here on the events/calendar forum. May 16-18.
