I'm thinking about swithing from a 60" recurve to short 48" recurve,I'm wondering what the differance will be, if a short recurve will shoot as accurate and as well. Any body with experiance shooting short recurves have an oppinion.

Some folks like the short ones and I suppose Fred Asbell's aticle in the last TB magazine convinced others.  I have shot all lengths, but find the shorties (those under 58" by my definition) to be too finicky.  

I cannot see an advantage (even from tree stands) of hunting with bows under 58". In addition, I believe Asbell was favoring the 56" which I found could be easily shot while sitting flat on my rear.

I personally find short bow to be very sensitive of any form or release flaws - they seem magnified compared to shooting a longer bow. They are just as "accurate" as a longer bow though.

They are great for tight places like blinds and stands.

Im weird Id love to have good 64 incher Ben Pearson in about 50 - 58 pounds!!!! or something close.....short bows always make you give up something, with the exception of the Shrew..Lil Fav recurve in 54 inches...  :)love the Lil fav

I use to shoot 58-60 inch recurves then I shot a 64" Sovereign Ballistik. WOW! (But I have never shot a Ballistik I didnt like).Never shot a 66"er but would love to.

I understand why a guy would want a shorter bow for hunting. I have a 58" Firefly longbow on order now.

Well I've gotta 64" curve.  It's fine, but has always seemed and felt (to me anyways) too darn long.  I went and gotta 46" curve, and love it.    The only thing about the real short ones is if you have a long draw.  Mine is good to 28", and that's it.  
 Oh yeah, I do like to be able to just sit on the ground and be able to shoot.

I personally,and this is my opinion only, do not like short recurves above 45 lbs.  I shot about a half dozen at K-Zoo this last weekend. Even with a 27 and 3/4 inch draw length I felt the 54 inch bows above 50lbs at hurt my fingers.

On the other end of things...I was able to shoot a heavier recurve, without feeling finger pinch, when the length increased to 60 inches or better.

All that being said, I ordered a 43lb - 54inch recurve from Timberhawk with a medium wrist  grip. At that weight, I felt like I could use that bow in any sitation for whitetails, bear, hogs effectively and it was very comfortable to shoot. I also felt that I had good control of the bow even if I was only shooting 8 yards.  The arrows went right where I wanted them, so I figure it will be a good hunting bow next year.  We'll see how she shoots out to 40 yards soon!!

I have a 69 Bear Super Mag. 48" I draw 29" with a recurve. It is a lot of fun to shoot, but I really have to concentrate when shooting it. Follow through is critical for me with this short bow. It is very maneroverable & would really shine in a blind. I usually shoot a 66" Hill LB. Frank

Well, I only draw 26-27 inches (yes, it does depend on what bow I shoot. sue me.), so maybe I'm not the one to ask, but I like "short" recurves, 54-58". I'm also about 5'9", and I mostly just like them that length because I'd rather carry that length around, especially in the EXTREMELY thick, nearly impassable Northeastern NC woods and second-growth swamplands near my house.

At my draw length, there is NO drawback to a shorter bow that I can see.

I love short recurves...and I also have long ones. I have never really gotten the whole issue with fingerpinch, accuracy etc, that others talk about...maybe I have tiny fingers or something, and maybe I am not really a 28" draw. (if I wasnt I would still lie about it). I killed a lot of game with a 52" checkmate. that thing doesnt give up anything. Each to his own, but I am buying more shorties. (you can never have too many dontchaknow) good luck on your quest.

Ive had my 56" 46# Bob Lee for almost 2 mo. now, it is my 1st trad bow.  It shoots great.  Im getting pretty good w/ it out to  30 yds.  I didnt like shooting my wheelie bow at game that far so I think Ill be just fine this fall.

Ya'll act like a 60" bow is a spud bar. With my 32" draw a 60" bow is about as short as I care to get.   DAVE
