Would anyone who knows about groves recurves please shear with me? One primarry interest is the dynastress limbs. I think I have read that they only had 1 lam of wood? What is the dynastress process and what made it so special that it recieved a US patent?
Thanks

I don't have the link saved but a few months ago I looked him up on the web. I found a page that had great info about him and his bows.

I wish I had got me Lefty Groves....what good bow!

The Dyna stress method is a two step lamination process. The first process laminates the glass backing to the single maple core and is set in a form that almost make the letter "C"....similar to an Asiatic  bow. Afterwards the belly glass in laminated to the first on a normal form. The real trick in the process is the use of glues. Once the first step is completed the second one has to be done with an adhesive that will cure without damaging the first glue up. The first step, which really has an acute recurve is where all the pre stress is built into the limb.

My Groves Spitfire has 2 wood lams. The main one is thick and the other is about the same thickness as the belly glass and goes up the belly side of the riser.

If you look closer it stops just past the fadeout. It's cosmetic only.

Hey, Kevin....still shooting the Mag II?

Well I do have a Widow now but the Groves holds a significant place in my heart. It's the only bow that I have ever killed a deer with. The one I got from you got too heavy for me. It's out there somewhere. I am now shooting a 56" Mag I that has some nice wood in the wedge (custom). I had it one week before I shot the deer in my profile. I wish I still had the 4 others that I let go.    :banghead:

Kevin I checked my Groves and it does have 2 wood lams and 2 glass and they run butt to tip. I'll try to get a clear picture but definitely 2 complete wood lams.

Here's a picture. He had great glue lines.

That's interesting BB. What year is it? What length and poundage?
Here's a pic of how mine fades out at the wedges.

I'll join in this Groves love fest.

BenBow

Kevin I don't know what year it is. It was a 62" and 60# @ 28". I found it in a craft/antique shop in a little town in western Nebraska and bought it for $25. It was right handed and I'm left handed. It had a small blem on one limb so I didn't think I should sell it to someone so I cut the limbs off and made them work on my metal riser. Sure not a good looking as yours but shoots strong.

BB, I wonder if the additional weight and length required the additional lam?

Zman, you should have seen the all cocobolo one that I had.

LONGHORN
