Hey guys....I could use some help with rain gear.  I was wondering what you all use, what you like, dislike, packability, color(camo?), weight, etc.

I have camo Peter storm rain gear.I guess it's as good as any if you have to wear rain gear.  

i cant think of the brand name but there is a powder that most arhery stores carry that you put on your feathers that makes them waterproof. its very, very light. you pick up the bottle of it and you'll thnk its empty, but it keeps your feather usable in the rain. pretty cool

I have some Cabelas Packable dry plus in their outfitter camo.  It seems to work OK and is comfortable.  Be sure to practice shooting with whatever you choose before you go hunting in it.  Read my tag line.     :D

If I'm still hunting I wear wool and get wet but I'm warm and silent. I like hunting in a lite rain.

Like killingstuff, in a mist or light rain, I wear wool.  However, if there's a lot of snow and slush on the trees and/or if I expect it to rain hard, I'll wear or carry my Rivers West lightweight rain gear.  Haven't used it extensively yet, but so far so good.  It is a little bulkier than most other rain gear.  On the other hand, it is meant to be worn as the main clothes, not over your regular hunting gear.

This year I hunted a hard rain that had me feeling like my clothes were just going to fall off me. In most cases my regular hunting clothes will do.

I have some Cabelas MTO 50 and have been pleased with it. Its expensive and the one thing I don't like is having drawstring pants with no zipper.
However I probably use it maybe once a year. If it's pouring down I don't go out and if it's a drizzle or light rain I wear my wool.

I'm partial to Gander Mountain's TecH20 line. Windproof, waterproof (ala Gortex), quiet, warm and comfortable. And you can't beat the price.

I bought Frogg Toggs for my motorcycling.  I tried them in the woods, too, and they were great.

I like the weight of he Frogg Togg gear, but it doesn't seem very durable to me.  AM I mistaken?

I returned a set of MT050 to Cabela's for a credit; Gore Tex does not work.
I bought a set of their Rain Suede rainwear that uses their Dry Plus fabric which works much better.
The Mossy Oak pattern is a good one for our area.

Thanks....this is all helpful so far.  Since joining the site I've switched completely to wool.  I'll be wearing it all the time.  However, I was thinking about being in a heavy, steady rain.  Also, if I'm on a trip hunting mutilple days I'd like to have a jacket and pants to save my wool from hours of rain.

Anybody have any experience with patagonia rain gear?  I've worn other stuff by them and it's all very well made.  Expensive though!  Great company as well.   Also read about Helly Hansen.  I know it works well for fishing.  Rain is the same everywhere, right?  I'm going to check out prices, etc. on all the recs.  Thanks.

Bjorn, I've heard some good things about the dry plus fabric.  I'll look into it.  

Guess those plastic ponchos are pretty useless huh?  Soaked in minutes?

I've tried a lot of differant rain gear when hunting and still got soaking wet, with sweat.

I tried some thing like wool this year and hunted in a wet snow, it stuck to me like glue and soaked my jacket and part of my legs.

Even though my cloths were wet i stayed toasty warm. I'm goin for the real stuff this year...WOOL..

I have the Peter Storm gear.  That stuff is tuff and quiet.  I used the same set for ll years now, and still going strong!  

I have Ganders Tech20 Rain gear, Snow camo and hunters orange suits. Pretty good stuff! The price is right when you buy it now!

Bass Pro Shops Squaltex Gear. I love it, fits over my clothes and isn't too bulky, or expensive. Not cheap, but worth it.
