A Bow building genius that is.....I got my new turkey creek longbow last week and I finally had some time this weekend to spend with it. The bow is 62" long 62lbs @ 28. The arrow it liked was a 29.5" Carbon express 150 with 5.5" feathers. It has 50 grains of weight up front with a 160 grain head. 577 grain total weight. I was a little bit apprehensive about the grip when I first picked it up, but to my surprise it worked very well. Once I got the new string stretched in and got the arrows tuned, the bow preformed flawlessly. I shot it through the chrono yesterday (577 grain arrow). I consistently got 180. The bow is super quite(about the quietest R/D bow I ever shot) and has no hand shock. I have shot other bows that claimed to have all of these characteristics but did not deliver, and I was really disappointed. I can honestly say that this is one of the best bows I have ever had in my hands.  Some of you guys on here know that Doug has gone through some rough times lately, I just hope that he can continue to build this great bow. You guys that haven't shot one owe it to yourselves to give it go, you will not be disappointed. I will post some pictures of my bow tonight. Its all Zebra with a little black phenolic.

I have not met anyone who does not like Doug's bows.  I have two and they are both shooters.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.

I have a Turkey Creek double carbon that is the fastest bow I've ever shot. Dad also has one and he likes it too. Doug is a good friend and great to do business with. Skyler

What bad times did Doug go through??  I noticed a few hickups in his service.  This may help explain things.

However he does build an awesome little bow.  I have a friend in Australia and his name is also Phil.  So the two Phils got to comparing their T/C's.  My mate likens his to a high quality hand made cane fly-rod.  It is light, small whippy and outshoots the way it looks.

I have a couple of modifications to do on my grip (it needs a thick hand-made leather grip to thicken the throat), then it will be perfect.  If anybody has any instructions on how to make one of these or where to get one from it would be much appreciated.

Hope I did not hijack the thread.

Sutto,
Many tutorials in the how-to section that I posted.

Personally, I like the method where you get the leather absolutely soaked in water, wrap/stretch the crap of out of it around the grip, and clamp it in place overnight with the office-style winged paper clips--the kind that are about 1 to 2" wide, and have the black body and two little stainless flippers to lock/unlock them...then cut to shape where the edges meet, and at the top/bottom with a razor blade after it dries, get a nice leather hole punch, mark holes every 1/4" where the edges meet, and sew it with artificial sinew...then there's no glue and you can take it off with no residue...

See Ya,

Hey Marc - thanks heaps for the explanation.  It does not sound too difficult and I am sure I can find those bits and pieces.  This is an awesome bow and I like it so much.  I am sure the addition of a thick leather grip will bulk out the throat of the grip sutfficiently to make it perfect.

Thanks - Sutto

I really wish I could speak so highly of my Turkey Creek. The problem is, I haven't gotten it yet!

I ordered the bow on October 6 and sent Doug a $200 deposit as soon as I got off the phone with him. Doug told me I would have it within 6-8 weeks...in plenty of time for Christmas (the bow is a Christmas gift from my wife).

Around November 14 Doug sent me an email that it was almost done, and I should go ahead and send the balance ($535). I sent the balance the following day, November 15.

When I hadn't heard from Doug by the second week in December, I tried emailing and calling him. A week went by with no response, so I called again. This time I caught up with him. He explained that his son had been sick, which was holding him up from working on any bows. He said by bow only needed some final sanding, and then he could spray it. He said it would only take 3 days once he was able to work on it again.

When I still hadn't heard from him by last Monday, I sent him another email. He replied back that he would have it done by week's end. I'm still waiting.

I can certainly understand that he has had some troubles at home, and therefore had some delays getting bows finished up and out to people. What I'm not happy with is the total lack of communication. Not to mention that bows that were ordered a month or more after mine have already been delivered.

Mine is supposed to be arriving tomorrow the 26th. If all that I hear about the TC bows is true I am in for a treat.
