Maybe a form of bamboo.  Nothing in the patches are bigger than 1/2 3/4 inch diamether at the bases

Not sure what kind it is but if it were me, I would be harvesting it for some "free arras"...Terry

non-typical

Looks a bit like Japanese Arrow bamboo but it's hard to tell from the pictures.

This stuff is really straight and the right sizes.  The owner likes the idea of me cutting it.....woooohooooo.  I am just interested in finding out just what it is.  And as of right now, there are 10 one doz bundles drying in the basement......hot dog....lol

It looks kind of like switch cane. The switch cane we have here in Arkansas doesnt grow that thick. There is another kind here that is an import that people use like an ornamental. What you have there looks more like it.I have never tried it for arrows because I have not found any that someone would let me cut.It sure looks good and strait.I would try it if I was you.If its good I sure would stock up on it.

Dano

What's the wall thickness of it? From the look of the leaves, it looks like bamboo. Hopefully PatB will be along to clear this up, he's the pro in my book.

Same question as Dano..wall thickness and node spacing. Looks like good stuff from what I can see...

Dano the wall thickness is around 1/8 to 1/4 maybe thicker.  On the thick ends, lets say 1/2 od, the inside hole is about the size of a pencil maybe?

Looks just like the bamboo we see around here.

on most of the ones that I cut that looks to be the diameter for my arrows, there is no more than 3 nodes in the 30 plus inch arrow and at my length, more than likely 2 on most of them

Like others said, its hard to tell exactly what type of cane it is but it looks like it would definitely make arrows. Be sure to cut mature canes.     Pat

As Dano said, and I put in my answer to your PM, Pat B is the best "Referance Book" in my book - but he tends to be modest (and shy -    ;)   - ya gotta open him up - like a clamshell -    :D   ) Just kidding, he is a great guy, very knowledgeable, and most helpful. If nothing else it will get you started and may lead to more/better stands and understandings. It looks like a good find to me too but I am a rank amature at "gathering", and take my cues from Pat B, Art B, Mat E, and my local friend/mentor, Mike Brooks. Wish I could help more, ss. You are on the right path though, in any case, and have every right to be excited. (Ah loves Cane Arras!!!    :archer:  ) In answer to your other question, Killie is, indeed, good at identifying/researching both flora and fauna but as said, it is hard from pics. If any of the mentioned folks were there, they'd have you straight as a warmed and hand straightened cane, in a heartbeat. Oh, one thing I recently learned from Mike when he showed me some new (to me) stands, it helps if you can find them growing in shade of other taller trees, etc. they tend to not grow so high, so fast, and therefore are less "whippy" and stronger (thicker walled) by the second year - makes sense to me - especially when I saw these I speak of. (Hope I got that right!) You may find areas/stands like that in the same vicinity as those purty pics you took.

It could be japanese knotweed, but I'm not sure.

Oh my Charlie, what have you gone and done now?
That's mighty pretty, hope you can find one in there a little straighter than the one in the shop   :biglaugh:

Here are a couple more pics.  The ramp on the trailer is 6ft.  Them man in the road is maybe 5'6" tall.
