Brad, get your warm clothes out, cold weather comin this weekend. They'll be hungry for a poor injured rabbit,it takes calories to stay warm!!

That made me hungry!! LOL

I think the cats are partial to birds and come in real slow, maybe somebody here is a cat caller......
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Yeah Kenny, bobcats come in real slow. Set where you can see around you and out aways. If you dont, about the time you think nothings coming in and you get up to leave and there they are,and there they go. Also they like to come in and then just stop and sit down and watch, and watch, and watch. And yes the bird calls work on them real good, although cottontail in distress works too.   Bob

kennym

Thanks Bob,I've only called one in while deer huntin in Dec. Must have been mating season,I heard that mournful reeeeoww like a big tomcat, imitated it(I was bored),2 minutes later here he was.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

The Vanilla Gorilla

Is that a hog waller in the pic of the two bobcats?

Jesse Minish

Nice pics. Brad. I would be doing some calling for sure. Nothing like calling in a cat.

Nope, that is a 2 yr old mineral lick! Those deer have really dug that one out deep!!! Good place to set a camera!

Kenny, I was in me stand yesterday evening, and had a bobby come into 30 or so yds...those darn cats see thru camo!!! Was wishin I had me Sweet 17 with me...lol. I will be in that stand this weekend, fo sho!!! Gonna try a pair of turkey feathers on an electric fence post for a decoy!!!

here are a couple from last week around an old apple tree...

this one I call ghost doe

this one I couldn't quite figure out what the deer in the front was doing, until I realized it had a frozen apple in its mouth.

this ones got a pretty good sized gut going on..

the funniest thing about this spot is the deer never touched a single apple until the last week of decemeber after a pretty good freeze and snowfall....these pics (sorry-low res cell phone pics) taken in novemeber show how many apples where there...

Marc: Apples can be like that. Some of them are pretty bitter and deer don't seem to like the taste. Hunger later in the season and the fact that freezing makes them more palatable makes them a gold mine later in the year.
The best things in life....aren't things!

fireman_3311

Good stuff, hickstick!!! That "ghost doe" is cool!!!

yah...I know bill..kinda like 'ice wine'...where they let the grapes freeze to concentrate the sugars...

that plus the fact that the place was LOADED with white oak acorns the entire fall....normally this tree gets so much action when they drop that I've literally seen a semicircular scrap (a whole bunch of smaller scrapes running together) around half of the drip line of the tree.

BTW  both trailcam pics where cheap stealthcam 35mm.  (I think I paid about $35 bucks for them)

I always enjoy these threads....fun to see what's running around our wood lot while we are stuck at work.
