OK, I saw another thread about those of you shooting with clickers. A couple mentioned making them quieter but never mentioned just how you go about that. Could someone give me a little feedback on what you do?

I have used mole skin over the metal clicker part, malkes a dull noise versus a sharp click.

The 3rivers catalog says to use electrical tape to dull it for hunting.

I used liquid rubber.  No noise at all, but you can feel the click.

I was supposed to do a thread on how I do it. I got busy and didn't do it.  

This is how I do it. I basically put fleece on every surface and on the bottom ( underside) of the spring steel I put a neoprene tape. Hope this helps. I too could do a build along tom as I have a new one to do.

get rid of the chain for starters!!  just use some kind of small nylon braided rope. I use the string that most !@$#@^^& shooters use for string loops. I have used mole skin, but the easiest I have found is a small pc of electrical tape on the clicker itself. Really dulls the sound. (my 2 cents worth for ya!!)

I didn't have much luck with moleskin. So I'm still going to do a build along. I just gave my old clicker to my buddy.I need to do one anyway.      

Looking forward to it. Just put my clicker on yeaterday and man is it loud.

Question: Are the clickers intended to train you to get a consistant draw then remove them for hunting season or do you allways use them?

First off, Terry I leave mine on always! Have been shooting one for 15 years now and won't go hunting without it!

I took Dirty Bill's advise and used the rubber coating you get for tools. I could only find the spray on. I applied several coats and it did deaden the sound, but not as much as I wanted. So I covered the spring steel portion with moleskin (as I usually do)- now it's very quite.

I too recommend getting rid of the chain before you do anything (it can actually ding your bow limb-I found out the hard way!). I use 80# braided fishing line- it works great.

I put one with the intention to train myself, but left it on now for a long time on my recurve.  Most guys are shamed into taking it off, but I tell everyone that makes fun of me to kiss off     .  They can make fun of me all they want; I know I don't have 3 or 4 inches of arrow hanging over of where it should be.  It helps me be consistent and use my back.

I'm looking forward to seeing the build a longs.  I put moleskin on, but it still "seems" loud.  The animals I have drawn on have never had a reaction.

With all that said, I still can't bring myself to put one on any of my longbows  

I'm going to do it today. Pretty soon even..

This is the stuff you need.Don't use this yellow cap,it's got a hole in it..        :mad:        

     

Take the sticky tape off the back,and take the clicker apart.You will have 4 pieces,the back,the front,the part with the chain on it,and the screw.Don't lose that %@!#$&^% screw..       :mad:      


     

Here is the spring part with a really long chain.

       
I cut this much off the chain.Here's the #$%^$#@ screw.      

Dip the three parts in the dip. You may have to thin it,but this can didn't need it. You will want to dip the front and back at least twice,and the spring three times. Let dry a few minutes between dips.

       

Hang it up the two main pieces with the thread you used to dip them with..You did use some thread,didn't you..           Hang up the spring part by it's string,let it dry.If you have bumps form on the bottom edges,just wipe them off,it's excess rubber. Let dry overnight,reassemble the clicker,add the new sticky tape,and install it on your bow. You're done,and the clicker should be very quiet,but you will feel it click through the bow.If it's still too noisy,redip the spring part.

They make that rubber spray on undercoating in airesol(bad spelling) cans at the local parts store, Do you guys think that would work??
