Holland was seized once by a speculative mania for tulip bulbs.  It was long before Alan Greenspan's famous dictum about "irrational exuberance," but he was talking about the same thing.

It looks like the market for Pearson Deadheads is headed that way.  The auction site currently features four of the large version, asserted to be factory sharpened with slight rust, currently bid up to $77.99.  That's $19.50 each, or roughly the price for six new Zwickey Eskimos as an example.

Another listing had six, new in box, Monkey Wards "Western Field" arrows, bearing what are most likely Deadheads.  They just sold for $80.51.  I suspect it was not the shafts and fletching that brought that price.

My favorite description for one of these listings touts two Deadhead-tipped arrows as "Great for target practice, hunting, school use, etc."                  

I was looking for some "bunny" arrows on there a couple of weeks ago. There was a lot of arrows that had 6 dead heads. The thing was there was NO mention of broadhead, deadhead, or anything that would have come up on a search. Those junk arrows went for over $80. You know someone is trying to corner the market. LOL

Those deaheads do have some collecter value is the problem.Say like 20 bucks apiece maybe on a good day.One thought on the arrows also,is a couple guy's been knocking them off culling out Bill Sweetland forgewoods....bowdoc

I bought over 30 the last 2 years for a lil of nothing on various websites....I still have them all  both Large and smaller version.   One of my Favorites    "Flying Hatchets"

The four I described at the top of this topic just sold for $105.00.   If this keeps up, the Silver Flame maker is going to have to raise its prices or lose some of its marketing cachet.

I sold 5 used, good condition Deadheads with fair original packaging several years ago for $65. Not sorry either. I paid $5 for the original 1/2 doz in about 1967 at a pawn shop. Put th $65 to use in target points, feathers and fletching jig, all on the auction site. Still feeling good about it.

I did have some large deadheads that had been slotted to accept a bleeder blade from a Pearson Switchblade....They actuly shot good and cut a pretty darn good sized hole.....If I can ever figure out these pics I will post a picture of one I have left.Neat looking with the bleeder installed.bowdoc

It's a head I'd love to try sometime but I agree, the collectors are definately making them inaccessible.

I'd be interested in trying out the modern(er) remake, the 'Dreaded Head' but I can't find any info on them, or any for sale. Anyone got a couple they'd part with?

Just for the record, the thread DID start about the financial aspects of Deadheads, not about the heads.

Okay, I'll try to shift the focus onto the head.

Is is that this head has approached Icon status for many bowhunters?  I mean is just looks like a broadhead should look??  I would daresay that very few of the ones being bought are going to be used as intended.  If the heads were to be used for hunting, market forces would have several types, including "improved" models.  

I look on them kinda like reverse simmons.  Where the Simmons Interceptors/sharks are comvex, the Deadheads are concave.  

So we have heads that are straight (Grizzly) heads slightly concave to straight (Zwickey and Magnus, heads convex and the Deadhead.

Again, if the heads were so good, why is no one making them?  Yes I know of an outfit that makes a few, but with those prices, they'd be hot items.

I also like the Deadheads, the first head I shot, shot well, and was sucessful with it.

I don't mind the shift in focus at all.  The Deadhead is something I'd like to try based on its excellent reputation, including the Ashby reports.  That's why I look at the prices and why I'm interested in discussing them generally.

Can't tell whether the Hunt brothers are after them or it's just auction mania.  If it's the former, I personally hope it turns out as well for them as that silver venture did . . .

looking back, I gave a dozen pearson arrows tipped with deadheads, still in a pearson box, away as a door prise at a local shoot about 10 years ago.. Dang it!!
