That is a nice buck. I'm going to buy a really nice mount with antlers that can be changed and get several different sets and pose with it a bunch of times. Then get my own tv show.Good plan, methinks.      :campfire:

I appreciate the kind words guys.

GregD - I'm not half the man (literally) that the Wensel's are...in many ways  :)

The bow is a vintage A handle Bear Custom Kodiak Takedown.  When I purchased this bow a few years ago it had never been shot.  Since then, it's been with me on hunting trips to Alaska, Arctic Circle, Saskatchewan and Ohio.  The arrows are tamarack footed with purpleheart and I used a 145 grain Eclipse broadhead.

I actually shot this deer on the first morning of my 2006 vacation in Ohio.  November 5th was a crisp morning and I first heard and spotted this deer approximately 300 yards away.  Even from that distance, I could tell it was a fairly big bodied deer.  As the deer walked closer, I could tell it was a pretty good buck.  The deer continued to move closer and I thought it would walk down the other side of the drainage I was hunting.  Needless to say, I was happy to see the buck cross the drainage and head towards my stand.  The buck continued to get bigger as he closed the distance and when the arrow struck him at 20 yards it was all over.  I was one tickled traditional bowhunter!  After thanking the Lord for another beautiful whitetail, I got my hunting buddy Kevin Dill to help me with the photos and the dragging.

This was my first time I had ever sat in this stand.  I had seen bucks "cheating" this edge the year before and we decided that we'd better get a stand up...glad we did.  The buck had been in some pretty good fights and it looked like he was on the losing end.  I just hope the winner is still running around for next year.  I'll try to post some additional pics so you can see how bad he was beat up and I'll post a pic of my mount.

The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Congrats on an outstanding whitetail. I love the mass. Thanks for sharing.

WOW great deer and mount. We got almost a year wait in Texas to get our mounts back.

Hey Bryan. Why don't you post some pics of your big one?

Greg Szalewski

Awesome buck Bryan. Thanks for sharing the story. Always like to see those old bows get used. Way too many of them are collecting dust. Got my nephews a couple of them last year. Boy are they getting the use out of them. The oldest is bound and determined to shoot a deer with his.
See you in Pittsburgh.
