My son and I are interested in hunting hogs in MO;
They used to have a special season on Ft Leonard Wood, it appears that they're now a pest and open all year....

We've heard there are some around Wapapello, does anyone know if there's some around central MO, like Lake of Ozarks?

Thanks

Kevin

Ft. Leonard Wood has killed off most of its hogs in 2003 because they were tearing up too much of the training area.  Although they are still occasionally seen there really aren't enough huntable numbers.  If you go to the Missouri conservation departments homepage it will tell you the counties with huntable hog numbers.  The National forrest in Pulaski County and Parts of Texas county hold high hog numbers.  When I get vacation in February I am going to try to hunt some down myself.  I live just down the road from FT. Wood.

thanks for the info, looks like we might have some closer than I thought (Settles Ford only an hour away)  We've had a few showing up here in East KS, but illegal to shoot them

thanks again

If any are spotted by you folks that aren't half way across the state from me please let me know. I made a couple of trips this fall and got all kinds of stories from locals bragging on how many they killed but were now sad to report that they had moved out of that area. Oh well, I dumped a bunch of soured corn with hopes that the locals could have fun.
God bless,Mudd
PS I'm north of Jeff City about 30 minutes.

The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

We're looking at a possible Recon trip to Settles Ford sometime in the next month...we'll report!

Mudd, you have any buddies w/ hounds that might run hogs?  That would be a real hoot.....

I've hunted Settle's Ford several times.  I haven't seen any signs of them as of yet, but I did talk to a guy that said he had seen some.  He told me to try the NE section.  He also said they were very aggressive and not to walk through any fields of tall grass!(:

hmmmm....the MDC website recommends carrying a gun...makes it a little "exciting".....

Please keep us informed on your findings Kevin.  I would be interested in doing a hog hunt and I'm probably just over an hour from there.
